I mean, I don't think it's really an either/or. They were clearly as in love with their respective wives as they were with each other, it's just that there were different expectations for how their relationships could be expressed. That goes for both Yoko/Linda being intellectual equals and Paul/John being emotionally equal to spouses.

I have been writing novels and a few songs. Sometimes you write about 2 people putting them into one person In the lyrics or whatever form you write and I hear other writers or musicians doing it all the time. So Im quite sure Paul and John did it as well like in "Two of Us" and "Now and Then".

Man Hey Jude is about both Julian and John. Just listen to the lyrics. Paul has also mentioned the lyric “the movement you need is on your shoulder” is when he thinks about John while performing it.

He thinks of John when that line comes up because Paul was going to cut it out of the song and John told him to keep it in.

The lyrics to "Dragonfly" seem to be about Paul missing his writing partner: "Come on back, make it right."

2:10 “You took your lucky break” was supposed to be interpreted as “Yoko took your lucky break” (... or at least, I read it somewhere). EDIT: 3:00 oh, there it is !!!!

I grew up on the Beatles and other bands of the time. I was eight years old when the the Beatles hit their stride. We wore their first album out on a Curtis Mathis stereo. Although my mom did commandeer the stereo for Peggy March's greatest hits, Oh did she have a wonder voice, we didn't mind. :D Thank you very much for this walk down memory lane!

Awesome video ! Regarding Now and Then, I think the parts that end up being part of the track might look like it's a love song to Paul. But when I listen to the bridge that was part of the original recording (and was not added to the released song), it's hard to think this song was for Paul, and not for someone else.

I read somewhere that there was a sticky note on the cassette that said "for Paul" and that's why Yoko gave it to him when she found it. #Unverified

I agree about the bridge, but there's no reason the verses couldn't be about Paul and the bridge about someone else. He could have put 2 parts of songs together. On the other hand I feel like the song was meant for Yoko. But who knows?

I thought George Harrison did a good tribute to John Lennon and his song all those years ago which is definitely about John Lennon after he was brutally murdered which was a horrible tragedy. and another song that is a tribute to George is the song by Ringo called without you because this song is about you that is a great tribute to George Harrison. Annette references within you without you because this song is about you.

I think now and then it’s definitely a song that John wrote for Paul McCartney it’s one of the best songs that was ever put together and it’s amazing that AI was used to extract John Lennon focal so I can be hard so clearly I love that song along with free as a bird and real love those are some great Beatle songs.

I think now and then does have a reference to Paul McCartney especially with an now and then I miss you and now and then I want you to be there for me when you returned to me. especially with lines like I know it’s true it’s all because of you and if I make it through it’s all because of you.

Probably it was for Yoko, he wrote in the same time as "Dear Yoko" and "I'm Loosing You". They were basically divorcing.

I'm gobsmacked by the statment I Know (I Know) is thought to have anything at all to do with Yoko. You've not cited a reason, did some author claim that or something? It seems to me that the song meaning is simple as a billboard to read if knowledgeable on Beatles lore. The "I Know. I Know." acid trip: In March 1967 Lennon accidentally took an acid tab rather than an amphetamine while recording for the Sgt Pepper album. As he was useless and distracting tripping in the studio, McCartney & big Mal Evans took him to Paul's nearby home at Cavendish, were Paul decided impulsively to trip with him. This was the first time they dropped acid together. In book Many Years From Now, McCartney reports this first trip with a Beatles bandmate as good, it included Paul's hallucinatory perception of John as a powerful 'emperor of eternity', them playing the tripping game of staring into one another's eyes- causing Paul to see himself in John, and the two of them at one point spending a very long period of time expressing understanding of one another by repeatedly saying back and forth "I know" "I know". I Know (I Know) opens with the riff from song I’ve Got a Feeling, and is packed with callback lyrics: “It’s getting better all the time” (from song Getting Better), “today I love you more than yesterday” (refrences song Yesterday & song In My Life), "right now I love you more" (refrences song In My Life), "I know what I was missing, now my eyes can see" (refrences song Little Lamb Dragonfly, lyrics: "can't you see" & "you and I can find a way to see"), and “no more cryin” (refrences song Oh! Darling "I broke down and cried" & song Jealous Guy "I didn't mean to make you cry"). In How Can You Sleep? John had been unkind: “The only thing you’ve done is Yesterday.” In this apology song he tells Paul: “I love you more than Yesterday.” Written in the time after John & George realized that Allen Klein was ripping them off, "no more cryin" repeated x4 sounds like "no more Klein", four statements in agreement. I Know (I Know) is double-barreled as an apology song for Paul, as it contains dedicatory reference to John's prior In My Life lyrics: "in my life I love you more", referenced by "today I love you more" & "right now I love you more". I Know (I Know) was the primary evidence Paul is the 'you' in In My Life until the lyrics were posted on the Lennon estate social media with photos of John & Paul together & birthday wishes on Paul's 80th, 18 June 2022. I Know (I Know) was recorded at Record Plant Studios in New York, the summer following the May 1973 release of Paul's Red Rose Speedway that included the 'beatles irrevocably gone/hope for rebirth of friendship in a new form' song Little Lamb Dragonfly. The pair of songs predate the better known I'd Have You Anytime/Let Me Roll It/Beef Jerky song conversation, are more informative about their friendship & really should get more attention.

What about the obvious one, "Tug of War', the song itself? That was definitely about John. Also, I believe "Now and Then" may have been about two people. Many times people write songs with more than one person or subject in mind. i believe those people were May Pang and Paul. Listen to the dropped bridge and see if you agree.
