Rob Stone commenting on Mika Koivuniemi's ten pin spare. Prophetic words as later Mika finds himself needing to convert another ten pin... This time for the title against Norm Duke.
2011 U.S. Open

Duke showed some real class there by not over celebrating right after Koivuniemi missed that ten pin. His initial facial expression tells he couldn't believe what just happened and he also showed everyone that he felt bad for Mika before he started embracing the wonderful victory. Norm Duke is one of my all time favourite bowlers for sure in all aspects.

I have to disagree. Norm could have shook Mike's hand before running over to raise the trophy.

Agree. Compare with classless Ernie Schlegel vs Randy Pedersen when Randy left a burner 8 pin with a strike needed to win

I'm a huge admirer of Norm Duke, a great bowler and a class guy. I'm not a fan of Koivuniemi, but I feel for him as well. The pain he was going through seems to come through the TV/computer screen. That's heartbreaking.

No doubt really thought Mika was going to win it - Duke did what he had to do make Mika work for it. Overall both are great bowlers no matter what.

Well that’s why he’s called Major Mika cause he won the 2011 TOC but dramatically lost the 2011 US Open. I felt bad for Mika, he made it to the Title Match all that well but end up missed just a single pin to lose.

This one will be remembered along with Del Ballard gutter ball in the 10th frame that gave a tournament to Pete Weber. Speaking of Weber, compare how classy, and even sad Duke was for Meeka to how Pete showed his ass in the next year's US Open.

I made 107 ten pins in a row over the course of a few months I then bet Greg Thompson $20 that I would miss the ten pin less than Him in the tournament (Greg has 90 perfect games) I missed my very first ten pin, and he went 8/8

This is true. I was bowling today, and I had 4 or 5 strikes in one game with all spares. I scored 214. I had 9 strikes in the next, but couldn't pick up the splits, and I bowled a 200. Spares make the game, unless you can score 300.
