Due to when I was hired, and how my company changed and the job market changed in 2020, I knew that not only was I underpaid, but I had a feeling that I was underpaid within my company. My plan was to request an internal salary review. When I had my review, my boss told me that the company did that this year. not only did I get my performance increase, but they also gave me a salary adjustment to get me more in line with the current salaries.

The 2-3 year thing has been advised to not just increase your salary greatly. It also refreshes your Tech skills to keep you at the cutting edge. What's interesting is if you stay longer than that your value to prospective employers goes down also. So around there is the sweet spot.

Staying 2-3 years does deepen your skills in the particular area that you are working in. I'm not sure I agree with the sentiment that staying longer hurts your value, though. Remember, it isn't just about your skills. It is about what the employer can expect from you. An employer wants to deal with the hiring process as little as possible. If they know that you have a timer on you, they might pick another equally qualified candidate with a track record of staying longer at a position. People who stick around and become the institutional knowledge for a company are really valuable.

@IAmTimCorey I saw a TED talk about it with hiring managers on LinkedIn. The thought-process is basically, if you haven't progressed in your role after a certain point, then you're looked down on by other employers. They would hire someone who has either progressed or looking to further their career. Someone more ambitious, let's say, that's the mindset, at least, that's where that thinking comes from. The number I've seen, though, is more 3-5 years. But it depends, you're also American, I'm European, different mindsets in different countries can also be a thing. But the broad principles with some nuance definitely applies.

We have a toxic culture of 90 days notice period and hence it reduces 70% chances of getting any interview call. Yes I am from India.

Yep, that can be really rough. The key there is to build up your skills and make sure you have real depth to them. That way, if you ever do have to make the leap, you have a much better chance of getting a better option.

Started my first full time Software Engineer job (as a Junior) when I was 33. Before that I was in teaching and IT support. Now I am 41. Had to do 3 job hops in order to get a good market salary of a senior software developer. Now I am getting paid more than my mentor at my previous job who has 27 years (He is not a job hopper) of exp as a developer! God is great!
