Thank you for the video and the fantastic reminders. I am in the middle of training.. my race is in a few weeks. I've had a lot happen (in addition to work, family and holidays) over the past several months and missed a number of training runs. I was stressed about it to saw the least. I appreciate the video because it brought me out of crisis mode and back into it's okay to miss a few runs and not freak out :) thank you!

Greaqt content, however AS a runner who wanted to add some cross traing i started cycling, within 2 weeks i had an IT band issue, went to physio he asked what had i added to my routine and the history, CYCLING was the only thing so he advised to stop, rehabbed the issue and now ZERO IT band Issue, my physio said IT band syndrome is also very common in cyclists... who knew.

That's not a cycling issue, it's a strength issue. It's very common in runners who cycle because they have weak glutes. As soon as you sort out the glute strength issue, 99 times out of 100 the ITB issues disappears. That is why strength training is so important too (along with the cross training).

@@CoachParry yes spent past 20 weeks upping the game on strength work, used to put it to one side but having spent the time to concentrate on the strength in the legs feel much stronger, there are days and sessions i feel like i could FLY. IT band is a non issue now, so is the pain in the right hip and soleus niggle but still cant shift the pattella tendonopathy, its not to bad maybe 3/10 and no more but would love to get it more under control or maybe thats me now after reaching 53 got to expect a few niggles, I will be keeping on with the stregth work, proper warm up and pre activation routines before every session. Feel awesome, best shape I have been in BUT for the PT, without that would be back to marathans. for now will stick to 5,10 and 15k. Favourite youtube channel by a long way... I wasnt offended by the pineapple on pizza being invented in the UK LOL...

@@CoachParry Thanks for reply, I concentrated the past 20 weeks adding in 2 days of strength work at least per week, in the initial rehab period it was 4 times per week. I can now report ZERO ITB issues, glutes are feeling so much stronger as does the whole leg. I still get the odd niggle in other areas but my right hip used to be an issue on long runs, now gone, occasionally get a niggle on the soleus maybe 3/10 but it resolves very quick and only comes back when push for speed days so concentrating a little more on calf strength right now. ONE thing cant shift though is patella tendinopathy left knee, again only 3/10 and not all the time, after a 10k a little pain but next day gone but can do a 5k tempo session and knee is fine so maybe it is just part of the aging process, I don't feel im doing anything wrong now in a strict warm up, pre-activation routine before every run and at least 2 strengths days per week and on top of that a Yoga stretch day. I also have a great shoe rotation so doing all is can to be a 50 plus runner and keep running. Sprint work is out now though as just creates issues so totally ignore my Garmin suggestions and do my own routine program, just use it for HR with the chest strap and pace, zones the other metrics are nice to look at from time to time but don't read to much into them. Think it might benefit me to join coach parry subscription?

If I cannot run for 2 to 3weeks because of wisdom teeth surgery and I do not have a pool or stationary bike, what should I do?

Walk instead. Shona often mentions that people underestimate the power of walking. Maybe this is a good opportunity for you to apply that. Beats staying idle. Or just do strength training!🚶🏋
