In this video I share some of my organization hack as a minimalist. Decluttering is an important step in the process, but learning how to create systems and maintain those systems is really the secret to a neat, clean and clutter free home.

' Having a place for everything and everything in its place.' is an old fashioned saying in the UK. Having moved house, and no longer having a long narrow hallway in an old Victoria house ( which I loved), I was able to create a gen-kan ( excuse spelling) a Japamese/Korean idea whereby as you enter you take off outdoor shoes and put them immediately onto a shelf, put your keys in a nearby basket, hang up bags and coats. My little granddaughter lived with me for while ( age 1yr through till 3yrs) and it just saved so much time and stress when going out of the door. Even now when she visits she automatically puts her going outside stuff in the right place so no panic rushing around, looking for the other shoe etc etc. Adds to the calm!

Wow how do you not have more subs?! I’ve seen a ton of videos on minimalism and after a while, they all begin to say the same thing. Some people do a great job, but some just add to much boring detail or unnecessary fluff. Or their declutter videos are sooo long, we lose interest. You had details, but interesting ones, a relaxing, calm voice, but still have good emphasis and intonation. And some humor but it wasn’t cringe. Great job!

I hate all of the power cords. I ended up making a ‘to go’ kit with all my surplus cords- I have an iPhone cord, mini and micro USB cords so that if I was gone for the weekend, I could just grab the to go kit instead of grabbing the home charging cord and forgetting something. This has worked very well for me.

Amanthi, great idea! I personally only have one cord for each item, though, so I just make sure my phone is charged before I go anywhere. ;)

Love this video! Every point resonated with me! My mindset & how I do things, except, the pots……I don’t have the space! Re doing my home to declutter more & pull things together more!😊

Great ideas. I used the tag off the bread bag and write on it to put around the cables.

Great tips! I love your calm space. I’m a pretty natural organizer too, but it really is shocking how quickly things can accumulate. I’m due for a good declutter (you can’t organize clutter!) Love the outtakes 😀

I hate stacking things but I have a very, very small kitchen and I mean like really small, not what KZbinrs usually describe as small: my kitchen is less than 21sqft (2 sq metres). I can't declutter further because I cook from scratch most of the time, I don't have bulky appliances and I don't keep duplicates or things I don't use, actually the cooking utensils I use are very basic and versatile ones but still the space is very limited so stacking pots, pans, baking sheets, glasses, mugs is the only way for me. I have to make it do with what I have and that is a single cupboard plus some shelves under the microwave that lives out of the kitchen. Luckily I've got more space for all the other things in my life so the kitchen is the only place where I have to stack things.

Good video, Rebecca! ♥ (Love the outtakes! :D ) I agree with all your ideas. I, too, keep my pots with their lids on, singly. Actually, I have empty space in my kitchen cupboards and am working on expanding that empty space. My dream is to live in a tiny house some day soon, so the less stuff I have, the better...especially in the kitchen, since I don't like to cook. LOL I also file fold my clothes; it works wonderfully.

I definitely have to try file folding my clothes. Agree the stacks make for a bigger mess.

Everything a home 👏🏻 I used to be so resistant to this (it felt too uptight), but I notice now that the clutter I have is all just stuff that firsthand have a home.

Hey Rebecca, by nature I’m an organizer person but my husband and kids don’t follow suit. Do you have any tips on encouraging family members to stick to being organized?
@Peonies43

Organizing or being organized is a way of living. Its innate. You can’t make anyone change. If they resonated with your cleanliness and organizing, they would do it by themselves. As they don’t, free your mind from the thought of them being the same as you are. Bless you🌸
