I’m a medical social worker at a major hospital in my city (just completed week 6 🤓). However, I don’t work in the hospital. I’m an ambulatory social worker working with patients around social determinants of health. A good majority of my patients come in with food insecurity but helping identify other needs they have that causes food insecurity. I work with both pediatric and adult patients. I’m seeing a lot of homelessness and cancer patients. It has been an eye opener and I’m so excited when I’m able to help address their needs.

Hmmm, my guess for what unit you might be working on.........I'm going to guess maybe a comprehensive care type unit with patients perhaps with a lot of severe developmental delays. Also going to guess cardiology because I started there once upon a time a looooooong long time ago. Super eager to hear what population you are going to work with!!

it varies position to position! atl as a whole has a higher cost of living, but social workers can definitely make a livable wage here, too :)

Also, does your supervision count toward your LCSW? I thought you need to conduct psychotherapy to work towards those hours?

In GA, clinical experience is defined as psychosocial evaluation, counseling, psychotherapy, and interpretation of psychosocial dynamics and recommending courses of action. So psychotherapy is a portion but not the whole part of what counts as clinical social work!
