I’ve said this before but it’s so easy to loose sight of how fast that really is! Most people watching this won’t have even gone that fast in a car! It’s crazy this little boat can get to that speed and so quickly.

one of the reasons it back flips at speed is you get air under the hull and that overcomes the weight of the boat and backwards you go. Full scale boats do that too so the driver is constantly adjusting trim, airfoils etc to keep the nose down but not too far down. It's the same issue with your speed record R/C cars doing back flips when you hit a pebble or something. Once the air gets under, it's game over. What you could try to combat this (besides more weight in the bow) is put a wing on the bow....just a little one, to add some downward pressure the faster you go.

I build high end rc boats. You can use a piece of wiper blade in the middle about one inch back (in the tunnel). That disrupts the air and lowers the lift. Or I usually use carbon fiber tube for a cleaner look. I’ve been over 100mph with a single prop boat on 4s.

Never really gave rc boats a go only as a kid and I did enjoy terrorising the ducks at local parks with a cheap rc hovercraft.. but the mess and carnage that comes with the nitro rc four wheel toys simply cannot be beaten .. yet another entertaining vid from kev and big thanks to his friends who help to adding that extra knowledge and footage ruining their own toys for us to!

Ran Nitro boats in the 80's. The return ratio was about 20 hours of prep for anything from 10 seconds of joy to 5 minutes. Tether boats are great though. Probably not a thing these days.

Steeper pitch props will do amazing things. Another thing to consider the big versions of these boats the props are breaking the surface when under power. I’m guessing the same physics applies which means you’ll want to bring the props up not down. And figure out another way to keep the bow down. Awesome video!!!!

I bought a few preowned Proboat 17 Deep V (ebay returns). Lipo/Brushless. Use blue loctite on the steering linkage grub screws. You can buy Hockey Tape to seal the hatches. For retrieval, I did like you did with a string of fishing bobbers. The self righting function is genius. Thx for the entertaining video as always 👍

Kev, I know this is a bit off-topic, but hear me out, mate. So, professional drifters that have thousands of horsepowers going to their tyres have an ongoing issue; the tyres don’t wear out, they come off in chunks from the speed and stress of the tyre. To fix that, they have these nozzles that spray water on them to help keep them cool, and to add to the structural integrity of the rubber. Maybe if you were to saturate the foam on the tyres with something, you could probably get a few more Miles per hour out of them. Thanks for your time.

Typically when a boat is flipping a lot, it’s due to too much prop in the water. A surface piercing prop when on plane should really only be about halfway in the water. Usually, I’d set the boat on a flat surface and adjust so the bottom of the stinger is about 3-4mm above the table.

What if you got a gyro set for vertical movement, and attach a trim tab off a high speed digital servo. It might be a phaff setting the gain, but once you’ve got it dialed in. It would really help keep the boat trimmed. You’ve got me looking at speed boats now 😂
