I see D. Dornbluth & Sohn has already been mentioned several times. I’m in the process of commissioning a watch with them now. Another excellent, fully handcrafted German watch brand at approachable prices is Jochen Benzinger. He has his own line and also collaborates with other top independent watch makers like Habring.

my anordain model 1 plum fume just wears so beautifully. 2 issues with the watch: The glare is just too much. their 6 layers of AR coating is not enough, and its a bummer to take away from the beautiful dial Its a pain to pull out the recessed crown. that being said, you can tell the watchmakers put a lot of care into this watch. Worth the wait

I love the Habring2 Foudroyante! It's such a cool and unique complication. You'll already know about this brand, but my choice to dive into would be Ressence. Their take is so utterly unique, mechanically and visually, that it deserves far more recognition. Another would be Lundis Bleus, who are making gorgeous, handmade and bespoke enamel dials for a price not far off Anordain.

Ming (from future classic 17.09 to gphg winning 17.06 Weiss to récord breaking lw.01... with that insane seconds animation) Dornbluth. So slept on it hurts. Pikullik has a cool story behind it as well as fine watchmaking Islander watches... lots of misses but the northport (sapphire bezel, omiwatari dial pattern, amazing colour fades, good bracelets), the great wave and some of their pilot models are amazing bang for buck) Maurice lacroix...slept on high horology like their roue carre Mhule glashutte. No gimmicks. Just solid watchmaking. Orient. Better and more interesting than seiko for less money.

Just recently found your channel. Awesome content! Love it 😊. I’ve been thinking about adding a unique tool watch to my collection. Something with heritage, maybe some unique attributes or even some firsts in the industry. Looking for something kind of under the radar. I have been interested in the new ZRC lineup (the smaller 38 or 39mm ZRC Grands Fonds no date) or maybe a Vulcain Nautical with alarm and rotating decompression scale on the dial. However, reviews are very hard to come by and to top it off there aren’t very many boutiques in the states that sell them. Wondering if you would review either one or both? Or just share your thoughts? Or maybe you have some unique/ cool tool watches that you could recommend. Another cool piece I think you could probably review is the Favre-Leuba Bivouac or really anything from this company. Super cool and old company with unique design language and interesting features. Thanks again for sharing your unique voice!

I believe Habring2 made 50 watches a year when they first started in 2004. By 2021/2022 They were making 200 a year. I had to wait over 6 months for my COS-Felix, delivered in September 21, which was one of 17 made from 2018 to 2021 when it was discontinued. Then In June 22, I bought a Doppel-Felix. These were limited to 20 a year and are also discontinued now. The delivery waiting time is now closer to 12 months. In the 2024 Wristwatch Annual it states they make 250 watches a year with 4 employees.

Lotec Otsuka. Love the very industrial almost steampunk like design. Waiting for the day they eventually open up sales to outside of Japan only residents. 2nd hand prices are nuts for them now and not even going to entertain paying those kinds of premiums for the watches 2nd hand. IF you could buy them new, they are quite reasonable in price, IMHO. But, very cool Japanese independent brand and original designs, none the less.

The best thing you can do, IMO, to improve your Japanese pronunciation, is learn how the vowels are pronounced. A = "ah", E = "eh", I = "ee" (like in see), O = long O sound, and U = "oo" (like in taboo). That, and stop pronouncing karaoke "carryokee." Ka Ra O Kay - The last one is more of a PSA 🙂
