Dialogue for an edgy main character: *grunts and scoffs* Dialogue for a naive main character: “What is this? What is that? I don’t get it? What do you mean? Dialogue for a heroic main character: “I will protect my friends until my last breath! No matter what! I will stop the evil Dr. McEvil and save the world! I must! Dialogue for an evil character: “Mwuhahahhahahahahahahhahahahahahhahahahahahah!” *clap of thunder* Dialogue for a side character: *dialogue gets cut during editing* Dialogue for minor characters: *character gets cut completely*

I finished my first draft yesterday. I sent to some people for feedback, and they said the only thing stopping them from really liking it is the odd way my characters talk, kinda artificial most of the time. But the premise, the actions, the technology of my script were praised. So I really needed some advice on dialog.

I love dialogue, but I have so many bad habits. My characters use each other's names too much, and also start most of their sentences with 'Well,' - at least I can realise what my mistakes are to find them and fix them in the future! Great video Nour :)

Thank you! 😊 Most of us make these mistakes, especially in the first draft. But like you said, being aware of using them helps us make sure they don't stick around.

My Achilles’ heel. Along with writing a first draft... and not panicking that my novel won’t sell even though I should be focusing on just writing and I probably won’t publish for a few years or more... 😂

Lol don't worry, the panicking happens to all writers. I'm panicking right now despite my book being prepared for publication. It's normal. We just want to succeed, so we overthink everything. 😁

Awesome video! I agree with the whole action dialogue tag thing. You'll see alot of that in fan fiction. It drives me crazy!! So... is your background a whiteboard? If so... who drew that picture of you and how?? Its a amazing! I know that it's in almost everyone of your videos... I just was t sure how to ask, lol.

I'm glad you enjoyed the video! The background is all cardboards, and my friend who is a really talented artist painted the picture of me along with the ocean and turtles at the bottom with the flowers (I'm not sure if all of these show up on camera). She also did Buffy the Vampire Slayer on the left, if you can see it in the video. I know they show up in some videos but not all depending on how much we zoomed in. 😊

When you said not to repeat names too many times, I couldn't help but think of the movie adaptation of The Fault in Our Stars. I liked it, but during a phone conversation they said each other's names so many times I was like, "I get it! I won't forget your names." Thanks for the advice, Nour ;0)

I have an issue with the word like. I once put it in nearly every sentence once in an entire paragraph without realising. When it was pointed out to me I questioned why I’m obsessed with this word

A lot of us are obsessed with this word. Once we're aware of it, we can avoid it.
