I’m in an interracial marriage. When I first went to my husband’s country years ago, his mother would make negative comments about my appearance (not very pretty, overweight, etc.). It really hurt my feelings and I thought it was rude. Apparently, it’s part of the culture to tell someone they are chubby or unattractive, like it’s no big deal.
