No, it was his own fault. Matilda's family accepted his proposition to postpone the wedding but after listening to the old man, he found himself in a dilemma; either postpone everything and risk losing her to another guy or do everything now and take her out of the market. He preferred to do everything while he was there so that he didn't have to worry about returning to Ghana and spend more on travel and hotel expenses.
