Becoming a Creator Episode 2
The scariest thing I ever did was move to Japan without any idea of what I was going to do there.
I took a couple Japanese classes in college and I knew that I wasn't ever going to really be able to speak it until I went and lived there.
When I landed, all I knew was my friend had recommended something called WWOOF Japan so once I landed and made it to my hostel I looked it up and started messaging local farmers.
Thankfully after a few days, one family got back to me and said I could come live with them and work in their peach orchard in exchange for a bed and home cooked meals. It was the perfect way to experience the culture and practice the language.
My favorite part of the whole experience was talking with everyone at night during and after the family dinner. I showed them how to make S'mores and they taught me Japanese.
All that wouldn't have happened if I waited to get everything perfectly planned out. I had to jump and then figure it out.

This is my 2nd official video of my Becoming a Creator series. There's a few new wrinkles that make this better than the first video.
1. I got a new phone and filmed with the back camera instead of the front facing camera. This wasn't planned, I dropped my phone while running to the gym and someone picked it up before I could go back and get it! Lost 2 years of photos and videos that didn't back up properly. Lesson learned, make sure you backup stuff better lol
2. I used a LUT for the first time. It was the basic Orange&Teal LUT from LandonBTW. I didn't love the colors in the last video, so I decided to try using a LUT as my first venture into the colorgrading world. There's a lot to learn and this isn't some super impressive work by any means, but it is an improvement!
3. Made sure to be more centered throughout the video, shot in a room with less echo, added a noise reduction effect in Davinci to reduce the sound of the heater in the background, and shot myself standing instead of hunched over and seated. I also tried to end my sentences with a more definitive down tone so I sounded more confident on camera.
I was really nervous about this video because this is such a precious story to me. I love Japan. I loved this trip. I love the family in the thumbnail. I didn't want to butcher something so meaningful with a bad video. I will tell more stories from this time in the future, and it will be fun to see how I've improved as a creator when I put out the next one!
It's been really fun using our own software @viddystudio to capture these important and meaningful stories from my life. I'm just going to keep trying to get a little bit better with every video and keep the rate of improvement slow and steady. This is going to be so fun to share with my loved ones and future family one day.
Thanks for watching!
