Hi Greg nice saw. I just posted a short video of my hydraulic wiresaw I built. After reading the comments I realized how many people like to cut rocks.

This is actually kind of an old video before I got the CNC working. I have newer videos going into more detail about the saw. Please post more videos of yours! If you have any questions my email greg9504@gmail.com

Thanks for posting Greg, I really need to make a portable system like this, just surfing You Tube getting ideas.

Hi Dave, let me know if you have any specific questions or where to get things like the pulley wheels or wire. Search for "Quarry diamond wire saw". And you will get ideas of more portable saws. Of course there are the portable concrete saws by Hilti, expensive. Thanks for watching.

Hello. I will try to build a wire saw mostly for cutting marbles.I try to chose the correct flywheels an i notice that mostly use aluminum flywheels.I find in the local store cast iron flywheels 900 millimeters in diameter . What is your opinion? Do you think its proper for the task or not? Thanks
@GregsStoneYard Жыл бұрын
Hello Yannis, You have to be careful that the flywheels use a polyurethane liner (rubber like strip). If the wheels were designed for use with diamond wire, then you should be fine. You will then have to calculate the required RPM, so that the wire speed is approximately 24 m/sec. You can go higher speed for marble, up to 30 m/sec wire speed. If you use an electric motor, use pulleys so that the wire speed at 1750 rpm of the motor (assuming that is the speed the motor runs at) the wire speed is about 26 m/sec. Then you can use a VFD to vary the speed from 24 to 30 m/sec.

How long would one of these diamond wires last? Do they last a long time, or only get a few dozen cuts before being completely worn out?
@GregsStoneYard2 жыл бұрын
Wire life is measured in meters squared cut per meter of wire. Typically 10 or more meters squared cut per meter. My saw uses a 15 meter long wire. So 150 square meters per $1000 CDN wire. Softer stone like limestone will have much higher rates. Also I have yet to wear out a wire, they break and get wrapped around the pulley shaft, damaging the wire. I've added a brake to the large wheel so that shouldn't happen any more. Since I've added the brake I haven't had a wire break yet... Wire usually breaks at connector and can be repaired if the wire isn't damaged.

Hello, sorry I made this saw just for myself. I do not sell it. If you wish to buy a diamond wire saw I would look at Chinese saws, try a company called Hercules Abrasives.

hi Greg! diamond wire saw wheels have a rubber inserts? im thinkig to make saw like this :)
@GregsStoneYard5 жыл бұрын
Yes and no, the smaller guide wheels are a plastic resin, and for the large wheels they are polyurethane, see amastone.com/category/spare-parts-accessories/flywheel-liners/ , www.palmerio.com/en/portfolios/polymer-rubber-for-flywheels/ , www.milessupply.com/product/pellegrini-liners/ . You can purchase wheels with liners from Chinese manufacturers for fairly cheap. I've used www.herculesabrasives.com . What part of the world are you in?

@@wacek500 OK, if I were you I would look for a used automotive hoist. Look for the brand "Hofmann", and look for the type of hoist that uses threaded rod (trapezoidal lead screw) to raise and lower. This will give you a sturdy frame and a way to raise and lower the wheels. Then you can use a VFD to control the motor that raises and lowers. The VFD will control the speed of the motor to raise lower. That is the basics of the saw. This will save you lots of construction time and give you a very strong frame.

I have a shop also outdoor space for a saw like this , would you consider building me something like this or would it be better to buy something like this what ballpark range would it cost me for both what’s your opinion?
@GregsStoneYard4 жыл бұрын
You can purchase a CNC saw from China for around 25kUSD. But then there is shipping, foundation, electrical hookup. It would be hard for me to build something of the same quality for that price. You can build something yourself out of a used automotive lift for a lot less.

Hello Greg do you have a link where you got your machine or a website

Hello Salomon, This saw is a one off custom made. If you are on a budget the best place route to go is a Chinese saw. I have dealt with a company call Hercules Abrasives in the past. They are reputable. Expect to pay somewhere low twenty to thirty thousand USD. For a full feature top of the line saw you can go Italian brands but you can then expect to pay close to million for a saw.

Hello Greg, what is a thickness of the diamond wire?
@GregsStoneYard5 жыл бұрын
Hello Ivan, In that cut I was using old wire, I think it was originally 11mm. I now use 8.3mm wire from www.diamant-boart.com, the exact wire is: 543100782 G SW SPL 8.3MM 40 B/M HV1. This wire is for profiling use. Thanks for watching!
@MrFutu85 жыл бұрын
@@GregsStoneYard thank you Greg. Your wire looks like thinner that my 10.5mm. What is a cost for 1 meter for you wire? How much u can cut with it?
@GregsStoneYard5 жыл бұрын
@@MrFutu8 Hi Ivan, the wire in the above video is well used! It was wire I used just to setup the saw that another person gave me. The beads were worn down to the cable in some places, but it seemed to work fine on the limestone (very easy to cut). The wire from diamant-boart cost $70 CDN (~$53US) per meter. In the past I have purchased wire from China for $43 US per meter. But I now just buy the wire from diamant-boart because they have sales staff here and the extra cost isn't that big, plus they don't charge me shipping so in the end it's about the same price, plus better quality. I can't give you a good estimate of meters squared cut. I do this for a hobby/sculpture so I don't run that much stone through my saw. Do you have any video of your saw?

amazing work. where do you get your stone. I thought you were in granite country. that looks like limestone
@GregsStoneYard5 жыл бұрын
Hi Jason, it is limestone. I'm in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I used limestone for the test because it cuts so easy. The only quarries in Ottawa are limestone and they don't really quarry dimensional stone, they just crush it for gravel. The pink granite in the other videos is called Belmonte Rose from near Havelock Ontario, but I believe the quarry is now closed. The grey granite is from Stanstead Quebec. Thanks for watch.
