$90 for This?! What is LEGO Cooking: The Hoopty Marvels EARLY Set Review

If this shuttle has a major role in the movie, I can see why Lego would bump up the price by $10. But that's still only from 40 to 50. I guess I can see that it has large pieces which might bump it up by $5. And the design is pretty good so maybe $65. And since it's a marvel set it's $70. I have given all those "expected from Lego" price bumps and it's still $20 less. The $90 price tag just doesn't make sense but I gotta say I like how much interior space it has for such a small ship and the overall shaping is quite nice. But there are other nicely designed Lego sets that have a price to part ratio under 1.

That's a $40 set. Maybe $50 on a good day. But $90 is laughably overpriced. The set itself isn't even that bad. But it's just way too expensive. This should have been $50 and then you can maybe get it at $30-35 on discount.

In addition to that horrible price, the minifigures feel very plain since there's only three of them and only one of them has leg printing. Even if a set is overpriced, I at least expect the set to have very good quality help justify that price a bit more. To me, this set should not be more than $60 USD.

The only idea I have is that maybe Lego thinks this movie will have some really dedicated fans that are not that knowledgeable about Lego but really want this set. Or they suspect there will be a lot of little kids who will ask to get this set for christmas. So they will pay whatever amount they charge, and then they will reduce the price after Christmas.

My guess is that lego knows that this set may not sell well on it's own so they made it overpriced to allow for earlier clearances, thus, enticing people to buy the set. Another reason is so that they can have something on clearance for the holiday season.

If you’re in HK, the toy mall “In’s Point” in Yau Ma Tei always has Lego sets 30% off including new ones :) anyway, even with the discount, it’s very expensive.

At least lego should include a landing gear, hide-able spring loaded shooter, a door, more detailed interior (extra chair and briefing table), and some hidden compartment, something like some lego star wars shuttle and fighter ship manage to do

From what I understand, LEGO does not design a set and then appraise its value before selecting a suggested retail price. Instead, LEGO selects a range of prices for each theme, and then gives each set in that wave one of those prices, in order to meet sales targets. So the designer of this set was given a vehicle to design, and they did a decent job. But the vehicle was given the $90 pricetag because $90 was the only price-point left unfilled for the wave. It's possible that the designer didn't know what the final price would be, and thus didn't know how big and detailed to make it. But that's the gist--LEGO assigns sets to prices, not the other way around. As a point of comparison, I love the Andor Ambush on Ferrix set, which is a similarly-sized grey spaceship landing craft with three minifigures. The Andor set comes with a speeder bike side build and costs $70. So this set coming in at $90 is justifiably insane.

This set won't sell until it's heavily discounted early next year to it's proper price range of 50-60 bucks. I already have both a Monica Rambeau and Capt. Marvel minifig so even with a discount that's a pass from me.

A shuttle Tyderium would be worth 100$ but this is not an iconic ship nor does it contain a lot of minifigs or printed pieces. I say 50-60 would be more of a fair price.
