Thanks, what you say at 7:00 about correct right hand is KEY! I play since 25 years and recently a teacher invited me to do what you say and already after few days and hundreds balls I know that will change my game dramatically for good of course , I like the way you insist on it, you are top (the grip of course influences the club path also)

@@davidhaworth7152 Grip as well as other parts of the set up before starting the swing determine most of what happens during the swing. I often see a poor set up and know what bad swing and bad shot I will see before the swing even starts.

I'm not a pro but I think it's important to set up the ball on the tee correctly then you need to stand properly and last and most importantly getting a good grip

I don't know about that. Any good golfer who trains people is going to work with the grip when it is wrong. You might have been to people that aren't that good. I've played golf all my life. It's easy to see things like that

This video is gold. I’d add grip pressure into the mix too. I used to grip too tight and that made my contact extremely inconsistent because my hands were moving the club around throughout the swing. As soon as I gripped the club softer my contact consistency went up a lot. I’d say I went from a 7/10 grip pressure to 3/10.

Paddy Harrington taught me to use the palm of my right hand to press down on the left thumb. It locks my grip in without having to hold tightly. Frees my wrists up to unhinge and rehinge freely. It was the single best improvement I ever made to my game.

Thanks for the video. Couple of years ago had surgery on left shoulder and for some reason when I started back playing started that right hand issue. Weird rollovers with hand coming through swing. That segment of the video is going to help me out tons. I am now 55 but still a strong hitter. While losing some flexibility the right hand issue shows even more. Thanks as always. Always love your vedeos and podcasts. Hope you make 2 million subscribers soon. You and your content definitely deserve it.

Great video. I’ve been struggling on and off with shanks the last 2 years in short random outbreaks lol. Recently I’ve had more luck fixing them by practicing these exact things with my grip rather than a bunch of swing thoughts. The overly strong right hand was definitely creeping into my swing which was also causing a slight closing of my shoulders at address. Didn’t notice til I was watching some recent video recordings of my swing. Few minor grip adjustments and I’m back to playing good golf

I have to say the the advice with the right fingers and then PULLING the hand towards the body is an ingenious way to describe right hand placement. Ok this is why I like this stuff. I'm a right hand golfer and I suffer from time to time to a soft, high, weak fade. Who knew the cause could be the right hand grip. I went to the range with this grip in the right hand finger tips...what a difference. It feels uncomfortable as hell. I know this is different because my right hand and inside lower forearm are sore from hitting for an hour on the range. IT WORKS. Great video.

started playing 3 months ago, obviously a rough start. Was shooting in the 120s. I watched this video, I went out and shot a 97. Broke 100 for the first time. Planted one 5 feet from the pin on a 140 yard par 3 and had many other good shots. It was all thanks to this simple grip change. I am still slicing with my driver sometimes but this grip helped that as well. I could not believe how consistent I was striking the ball. I know I shot a 97 but I 3 or 4 putt often

Steve johnstone on his channel did exactly this a year ago and it saved me from finally giving up golf. For over 15 yrs I struggled with tge shanks and no pro could help me. So i stood further from the ball etc, which worked for a while. In desperation i found this grip advice as i was gripping with a very weak right hand. The difference is phenomenal. The club head comes through flush at impact, square divots not a shallow arch of a mark on the ground. This grip is fundamental to flushing the ball. I now love the game and have found hreat ball striking and consistency. Im nearly 65 and hit the ball sweeter than i ever have.

That's great to read. I'm getting back into the game after many years away (young kids and professional obligations), and I have been frustrated not to pick up where I left off with my golf game. I have asked myself if I should just give up rather than invest a bunch of money in lessons and new equipment to get back on top of my game. Hoping that going back to the fundamentals with videos like this will put me back on the right track without having to pay a pro to tell me the same thing.

I have been to the range a few times growing up, now starting to go much more frequently at 40 y/o and I can not begin to explain the problems I've encountered trying to be consistent and I know it all stems from my grip. I have been scouring KZbin watching video after video looking for a video that best explains basic grip, and I think this may be it!! I’m going to watch this a few more times in hopes of memorizing everything before going to the range to implement it all and hopefully see some consistency with my shots! I'd love nothing more than to be able to enjoy myself hitting the ball instead of getting frustrated. I'd also like to get good enough to teach my son, and attempt to actually play a game of golf one day lol. But I’m taking it one day at a time for now and just worried about hitting the ball consistently!!

As someone who’s played and coached baseball/softball for years, I’ve never seen a baseball players right hand laid down like the description of grip issue #2. I’ve always coached and been coached line up the knuckles which turned to a golf grip is the perfect grip with the slight thumb and pinky adjustments. Was just curious about that. Most of the time I see the under right hand on people who are newer to the sport and have never been taught how to hold a club.

I struggled with grip for many years until deciding to buy one of those short weighted swing training aid with a molded grip that force the hands into the ideal positions. Something else it does of force you to grip the club up on the air and that made me realize that grounding the club then gripping it had been the source my grip problems. Later I came across a Martin Hall video where he used a technique of gripping in the arm with elbows bent 90° he calls Elbows Down / Palms Up (EDPU) for how the hands start. Being someone who likes to understand why things work I realized the EDPU method of Hall starting with elbows down and palms up forces both arms into maxed out supination and external rotation. Then when you just rotate the forearms and hands 90° to a palms together praying position 🙏🏼 to put the club between them in a Vardon or Interlaced grip locking them together, the lowering of the club and straightening the arms causes both forearms to rotate inward which stretches and tightens the forearm muscles which control grip of the fingers. Gripping the practice grip and my club in the air made it easy to get my trail hands positioned properly. I had always read and heard your arms should feel relaxed at address but mine firm felt like twisted steel cables. I realized that the admonition to relax must actually mean don’t consciously contract the forearms to grip the club. Swing the club I discover the counter-torque the straightening of the arm created caused my trail arm to fold down and externally rotate ideally in the backswing and downswing and my lead arm to fold down the same way in the finish, something I had struggled with when gripping the club resting dead on the ground.
