In June of 2016 Sami traveled to California to check out the West Coast style of fishing for bluefin tuna. In this video we see Jonathan land an estimated 90 pound bluefin tuna on 25 pound mono line. www.saltywatertackle.com

Good job, lots of pressure on the fish the whole time! The hook must’ve been right in the hinge of the jaw with those line marks on the side of the fish.

Man I fought a 100+ on 25lb Top shot backed with 50 spectra, no prob until this one bluefin showed up at 4:55pm, I pitched at least 30 baits in a matter of minutes until I found, the one. We had bluefin 40-100lb+ all around us; I was using my 9ft black diamond with my tranx500, I fought this fish for 2.5 hours. I know my knots never fail and it was going to have to takes some finessing, I got him to surface 50-80 yards out and he was a big fucker from far like a big silver vw beetle, the second he took off we battled 200 yards of line back and forth before I got him straight up and down where I felt his heavy head shakes as he kept trying to bite the line. I’ve never caught anything in the triple digits and the most satisfying trip I’ll never forget, I got to see him and that was a mental picture I’ll never forget; my fish took one final run at the boat, I knew this was a big fish; my hands were raw, blistered, I can barely turn my handle after a non stop tug of war. It took tons of lightning fast dives, I could feel his teeth grinding on my line, which means he ate the fuck out of my bait!! but this last dive he did he did one final head shake and chewed me off... lesson learned haha
