I randomly smile when I think of the Super Van City commercial, of course people get curious and I explain. But there are some older people (like 19-20) that ask what are Micro Machines? Then I suddenly whither up and feel old, and I'm only 29.

You're right now that u think about it we really did move around a lot more than kids these days. I remember playing tag, freeze tag, hide and seek, mother may I, Simon says, red light green light, four square, jump rope, double Dutch jump rope, Chinese jump rope, and the two that many schools have now banned: red Rover and Dodge ball.
@asouthernwriter
@asouthernwriter 10 жыл бұрын
A lot of schools these days barely have recess anymore. I remember when we at least had free play 3x a day - then went home and had an extended one. Even thought we had TV's, we still managed to play outside.
@silentopinion
@silentopinion 10 жыл бұрын
I was thinking about it today, what is one thing you don't see these days? I'll give a couple hints, the distance between two streetlights (or whatever some other kids used), a football, and an amount of kids; even or odd (in that case, one kid was quarterback for both sides)? Easy, street football. Kids these days don't know how fun it was to sweat our asses off and be active.

I used to Topsy Tail my hair even though I didn't have the tool to do it with. It's not that difficult to do so the tool was kind of a ripoff. I had no idea there was a Free Willy cartoon. Mind: blown. I think 1994 was the last year I watched Saturday morning cartoons, and by then I was watching CBS exclusively. After '94 I was either sleeping in on Saturdays or watching Nickelodeon.

I think we use to play outside more than inside because of all the cousins being close and there would be a lot of kids on the block. Plus, our parents bought us toys that needed space. Besides bikes and scooters, there were other things we did like all kids of tag, red light - green light, hide and go seek. Great times.

***** Well, you did see DARE stickers all over the place, but after I left the second middle school I went to, like way after high school graduation, the school started drug testing and kicked every kid who failed out. They were praised, but I thought that was wrong. In my opinion, schools have no business stick their noses in students personal lives. I don't condone drug use when one is a kid, but I can't judge, I used to get high back then.

Saturday morning cartoons are back, thanks to Me TV (which is available over the air in many parts of the country)! As of 2021-22 we get half an hour of Popeye (the original 1930's-40's series), a half hour of the Pink Panther/The Inspector/Roland and Rattfink, a full hour of miscellaneous MGM cartoons (always with 2 or 3 Tom and Jerry episodes), and a full hour of Looney Tunes.

HAH! I had that "Fantastic Flower Surprise". I was finding those plastic flower pieces all over my room for YEARS. The "color changing" properties of the flowers themselves had this lovely habit of getting mottled and gross looking after a while. Secret Keepin's pups--I ended up having to kill mine after I lost the key and couldn't recover the game boy games I'd hidden in its belly. I was at Walmart the other day, and I saw a bunch of Lion King plushies that look just like ones shown here.

Also, the last show around the 9:30 mark clearly says published 1991 in the credits. I can't tell what show the credits is to, but that ending theme sounds so familiar, it's embedded into my memory. I imdb'd the voice actors but can't find a show that they all did together except Sonic the Hedgehog show, but that definitely isn't the right ending theme.
