Hey everyone! Sorry for the big delay in uploads, it’s been busy and had a technical difficulty which affected this video 🤦‍♂️ But I’ve got lots planned and a few nearly ready to build so won’t be long until the next video 🤙 Thanks for checking this out!

Love your builds. I'm addicted to converting old bikes to fixed gear. One of my favorites is a 90's Magna with a 6 bolt cog. Cycling in its purest form.

Thank you! 🙌 ooh sweet! Love the 6 bolt cogs, I need another one for some more fixed gear builds 😎 want to do a fixed gear Raleigh20 and a 700c chunky tyre fixed gear conversion soon 🤞

@Toasty Rides I have a Raleigh Scott Tinley tri light about '88 model my dad bought new, the Magna, a Raleigh Record from craigslist about early '90s for $35, and most recently a '76 Fuji Sports 10 I'm just starting to work on. Only the Magna has 6 bolt cog, the others are standard lock ring. I'm 53 years old and just started fixed gear about 3 years ago, I wish I did it in the 80's, but better late than never. Happy building!

Yo Gary! Haha good to be back 🥳 yeah that’s exactly it, I start with whatever’s floating around then go from there. I had a different rear cog but it was a bit too thick for the cir-clip so would’ve been a little sketch haha. Will try change it out for a group ride on Wednesday if I have time 🤞 Thanks for checking out the video homie! 🤙🫶

Theses handlebars are growing on me, remember having them on my commuter bike I no longer own, sadly all bikes I have now are a bit to small for me and flat bars with long stems are kind of necessity, great video as usual, cheers.

@@toastyrides Well I plan to build and resell them. I like building more than riding. But I've got a personal single speed bike that's my baby. It's a Huffy Eldorado Comfort Cruise. But not the kind that has a cruiser style frame. The frame is actually modeled more off of a mountain bike, but designed for a coaster brake. And I can't find another bike like it. Not even on Google. Believe me, I looked. But I try to ride it once a day to take my dog for a run. She loves it. I plan to do some klunker upgrades to it. New fork, and some wide BMX style handlebars. I want it to rip down a hill!

Nice ride. A lower gear will make it tons more fun. I aim for 45", Maybe not as fast but I found once you go down hill just let gravity do its thing.

Thanks! Yeah I try find a good balance gear, I prefer to spin out a bit on the flats because then I can at least get up the hills 😅 The current setup would be pushing up most the hills around me haha.
@Cobwobbler

@@toastyrides Interestingly I was listening to a podcast on the Great Divide and the guy ( terrible memory for names) was running single speed and came 2nd overall. He said the "forced recovery time" on the flats, so he wasn't riding flat out, helped keep his overall energy levels up.

I've considered using a coaster brake on one of my bikes but I'm wondering how reliable they are? I see you also have a front brake on this build. Used coaster brakes all the time when I was a kid but as an adult and 50 kilograms heavier I'm wondering how they would stand up. I use swept back bars on my klunker and although I wouldn't want them on long distance bikes I love them for under 30 kilometre rides.
@toastyrides
@toastyrides Жыл бұрын
I’ve found them quite reliable in the sense that the “pads” or wear surface lasts a very long time. I haven’t had one fail on me, but they do need re-greasing from time to time. I’m around 100kg, they heat up a bit if you brake a lot down a hill so definitely more suited to cruiser or flat ground style bikes. However I commute on my GT (coaster braked 7 speed nexus) on occasion and it’s been fine. I tend to run a front brake on my coaster bikes and fixed gears as a backup, in case the chain brakes. But it’s also handy if I start to smell the hub from braking downhill, gives me a safety net haha. Yeah it’s hard to find a nice backswept klunker bar that’s the right dimensions, haven’t been on long rides with this yet but we’ll see how it goes. Really love the look of it, though. Cheers! 🤙

Yeah sure could, but not with a coaster brake. My GT Slipstream klunker has a 7 speed nexus and works great, plenty of gearing on it. Yeah it’s definitely mudguard season here now, tend to get more flat tyres too 😆🤦‍♂️ still plenty of fun to ride, though!

@MrJob91
@MrJob91 Жыл бұрын
@@toastyrides it uses the wheels enertia and a spring to shift. Some planetary magic and 2 speeds i believe but it keeps the handlebars and frame ridiculously free of stuff.
@toastyrides
@toastyrides Жыл бұрын
@@MrJob91 yeah so do you feel it shift, or is it more of a smooth/progressive shift? Yeah shifterless looks very clean. Would be fun to try out. I have a 2 speed kickback hub with a coaster brake I’ve been meaning to lace to something, but an Automatix would be more interesting and probably work better. The kickback hub tends to shift when braking 😅
@MrJob91
@MrJob91 Жыл бұрын
@@toastyrides shifting when braking sounds gnarly. I live in a wet climate so i really love waxed drivetrains and gearhubs. Ive rebuild a few nexus 4 (underrated 70k+ km capable) nexus 8 and sram dual drive hubs. I have never actually rode or messed with the auto hub. Would be cool to see some more repurposed and rebuild gear hub on your channel. They really perform great in the wet filled with marine outboard gear oil.

I like it as a Klunker and the straight bars look real good but partner, stickers are for 10 year olds and that paint job looks like muddy moss. Its ugly. Change out the bars. Those are beach cruiser things. Did a good job otherwise.
@toastyrides
@toastyrides 11 ай бұрын
The stickers and paint are factory, the bars are what suit it for both style & fit 💖 *you* know not everyone will have the same preference to you yeah? So commenting on someone’s build to change it to suit you *is just a waste of time* you could have spent building your own bike 🌈 P.s Stickers are rad, go ride a bike 🫨
