I was literally in tears, my piriformis was giving me pain for several weeks and I was considering the ER just for a little bit of relief. I held the stretch you suggested for the duration of your video and, while it was stubborn at first...I literally felt it just melt away. You two are a godsend. ❤🙏

Again!! Thank you thank you. I’ve been down for over 2 weeks. Sciatica down back and front of leg. Two visits to urgent care. My poor tired 74 yr old father has been coming over every day to help me and feed and water my dog. Friends have been coming in the afternoons to help me and my dog. I’ve been crying and screaming. So hard to just sit on the toilet. Finally got to a point where I could lay on the MRI table which will be sent to my pain management doc. I’m in wait /limbo waiting for help to come. I did this exercise on the floor. My bed is too soft. By no means am I done yet but I was able to walk around for 4-5 mins and get my dog a bowl of fresh water!! I am blessed by my papa, my friends, and you guys!! Crying from relief that’s coming. 🙏 💕

Such relief! Both of my hips and tailbone were injured in an accident. Now all 3 have arthritis. All of this put pressure on my nerves that made them hurt and go numb. In fact, most of the time I could not feel my toes and only part of my feet. Even medicine so strong that I could not think clearly did not stop this. But this simple stretch brought great relief.

I started this type of exercise a few weeks ago after I started having that dang sciatic pain again as usual, but since I’ve started training martial arts again after 35 years, I noticed the piriformis pain started to dig in, at the time I didn’t know what the muscle was called. I’m glad I found the channel!

Thanks a million, by following up all of your videos, finally I overcame both unbearable sciatica and priformis syndrome that I have been suffering from almost three months, and walked for the first time 8 km along the promenade I longed for madly. My message for those who have similar problem: Be patient and hopeful, continue "positioning", you'll get back to normal and enjoy walking and jogging.

In 2013 I was rear ended at high speed while driving my Ford Ranger. At the moment of impact, I had a distinct pain in my lower left back. Turns out the seat no longer adjusts. Through the two of you I figured out it was a Piriformis injury. Today’s video indicated i probably had a tear that possibly healed. The only way to get relief has been stretching exercises. Have never tried relaxation position. I am 80 years old with a strong PT home program. Right now I am staying in quarantine so I cannot see my physical therapist. Years of injuries, falls, overuse of the body using poor techniques has taken its toll but all the stretching keeps me mobile.

I’d like to mention one thing that I’ve noticed with my students when doing Cobra, or the press-up, and that is the tendency to compress the neck by turning the face toward the ceiling. Keeping the head and neck aligned with the spine helps to make this movement more comfortable and easier on the shoulders.

Today when I saw your video I was so happy that this is so much related to my problem. This same problem had occurred 12yrs back exactly the same n after taking rest n regular exercise I didn't face this problem. But now during lockdown I started seeing this again.

I have to agree with Lisa’s comment. I was in tears also. Desperate for relief. I have been suffering from what I thought was sciatic nerve pain but after more research, I discovered piriformis syndrome. The pain in my right knee was nearly unbearable. It was keeping me up at night. I now believe this is what I’m suffering from. I tried the stretch in the video and held it for 120 seconds. There was no pain. It felt like, you know when your leg falls asleep and it starts to come back to feeling, that coldish, tingling feeling? That’s what I felt in my hip. I stood up and walked around my house for 5 minutes. Unfortunately I have a job where I am at a computer all day. However I am going to make it a point to try to stand while working much more throughout the day. I will keep trying this stretch!

I tried the usual stretches and I'd have relief for about 10seconds then bam back to square one..I've seen other videos from you both and this one popped up and figured it'll be another 10 seconds then pain is back. I will say this one took a bit of testing to find that sweet spot but the relief was immediate once.i found the right position and it felt wierd at the same time like someone had poured ice all over the area I was experiencing pain in. I was semi laughing in the relief from the pain thank you so so much this will be a 2-3 times a day thing for me. I'm finally able to sit in a chair without feeling like someone is stabbing my sciatica/back with a hot knife. Instead of pain it's more of a cold tense feeling with ache.

Okay, so I started having pain with my piriformis last week. I haven't been able to walk easily almost at all. I visited a chiropractor and have been working on fixing the issue. I decided to try this stretch. As I'm scrolling through the comments I'm having a hard time believing that the pain just poof goes away. Well, then I stood up. 90% of my pain is now gone as I'm writing this. Thank you so much!!

I had this sciatic and piriformis pain for a number of months now. Was counting one day how many tablets being taken every day to EASE the pain, not completely get rid of. I tried this stretch for 90 seconds only minutes ago, and as many of your subscribers have already said, 50 - 60% of my pain is gone!! I was trying everything before, now I am smiling thinking this is too good to be true. :) many thanks Bob and Brad!!!!!

I've been dealing with excruciating sciatic nerve pain for years. Had spinal fusion surgery last October and it has NEVER stopped. My physiotherapist has me doing press-ups for my piriformis and I find they're great. The biggest help though was to figure out what was triggering my flare ups. For me it was stepping with an outward rotation of my foot on that side and the prolonged squats that I was doing at work, now I use a chair to avoid squatting.

Wow , thank you , you guys are amazing - had ( I suspected ) a piriformis injury which resulted in searing sciatic pain , went to see 2 Consultant Sports medicine doctors - was sent for MRI scans , nothing evident in the scans but the doctors insisted it was due to misalignment of my hips , etc , and just wanted to DOSE me up with Diazepam !! Then , ( thank God) I chanced upon your KZbin video , completed the simple exercise …. and immediate relief of that pain/ cramp/ tension in my left butt . Also went for that recommended little walk , and am just feeling so much better . Will continue the little exercise 3 - 4 times every day , from now on …👌

its the pressure that bothers the Piriformis. Sitting OR laying down in bed , flat on the back ,reading for hours. Also weak Gluteal muscles after a Weber 1 fracture ( minor fracture but weakened the Glutes). Weak Glutes are softer and more susceptible to pressure.

Please read!!! I've suffered from PS for 14 years. I normally would get cortisone injections. That would help some times. My new, surprising healer is Elephant Walk stretch and deep squats. Surprisingly, a lot of the stress to the piriformis is a direct correlation to hamstrings. The other stretches never helped me. Get well soon, guys. I'm ready to start running and working out again. 😊

True sciatica never comes from the low back...if it’s coming from a “low back” segment it’s a radiculopathy. But regardless, strain counterstrain is an effective technique. The important part of the technique is returning the muscle to normal length after shortening without muscle contraction. Passively. All the strain counterstrain courses I’ve taken recommend keeping the muscle and/or fascial location treated to remain as relaxed as much as possible after the release while returning to neutral position. That’s the difference between positional release and strain counterstrain. A professional performs SCS monitoring tenderpoints. Positional release is something you do by yourself which requires some muscle activation to return to neutral. But thank you for bringing awareness to this technique.

I have sciatica from cauda equina syndrome. The sciatica started several years before the cauda equina hit me. L5S1 was leaking spinal fluid. Due to covid i could not have surgery. However, after using some of the exercises you have shown (I was taught them by local physical therapists) the spinal leak was resolved. I have shots at L5 and l4 but still get sciatic pain if I am on my feet too much. These exercises still work. This morning I walked 5 miles! Not yet a rim to rim hike of the Grand Canyon, but that is my goal. I may not achieve that but I am walking and have not had surgery. Keep up the good work, I know you have help and encouraged me.
