That was filmed at the corner of Ford Road and Greenfield in Dearborn, Michigan at the birthplace of Henry Ford. At the start of the video (0:08 to 0:15) that his Henry and his son Edsel on the right. This would have had to have been filmed sometime between 1919 and 1944. In 1919 Henry Ford restored the home when it needed to be moved about 200 yards due to road improvements, and in 1944 the home was moved to Greenfield Village. The high tension lines still run down the median of Greenfield Road (North-South) today.

A year or so ago I was driving with my mother in the farming community that my mom grew up in during the 1930's. She was telling me about the farm families she knew and life back then. We passed a John Deere tractor coming out of a field and the guy driving it had a unkept beard and wearing blue jeans and an tee shirt. She remarked that back in her day the guy would not have been dressed like that.

If that chain had snapped back, the injuries could’ve been fatal. 😱
@russianacorns80803 жыл бұрын
Yeah lol not with that size of chain you’d need 10-15 of these tractors to break that chain and even then there’s no way a stump even twice that big would’ve stood up to that
@machinesandthings96413 жыл бұрын
The stump would break in half before that chain popped.

Even if this was actually 100 years ago, there were plenty of power lines around in the 1920's. But I agree this was probably the 40's.

Movies had sound beginning around 1929. That whistle would've sounded fine. And at the very beginning, it looked like Henry Ford, maybe before he began building his own tractors.

Judging from the style of dress and hair style, I'm positive this is from the early 1930's. Women didn't dress like this pre 1920 for sure, and the style of clothing and hair doesn't fit with the "flapper" era of the late 1920's. This is definitely post 1930 but probably pre 1940.

A chain cannot store energy, but a cable can. If you got hit in the back of neck with a chain that broke it was because it was"thrown"in your direction by the limb that it was pulling on when it broke. By it's self it is nearly harmless. The easiest way to get hurt by a broken chain is to trip over it when you get off the tractor.
@donnebes94213 жыл бұрын
I guess the rear end of that tractor is were the phrase “farmers porch” comes from.

When I was a kid in the 50's I helped our very old neighbor to "grub" stumps with a large Case steam tractor. This guy has too small of a tractor, He should move around the stump pulling from different directions, and anyone with any kind of knowledge of the "fulcrum and lever" would have known to cut the tree much higher.
@Primerk53 жыл бұрын
pretty sure that isn't 100 years ago based on the attire being worn as well as the engine being setup more for parade duty. You wouldn't find multiple whistles or a platform like that on a working engine 100 years back, much less of video this quality.

@michaelcates90423 жыл бұрын
i agree, looks 40ish. i think what some people are calling a cell phone/ microwave tower (not the windmill) is actually some type of warning/ air raid siren. Look closely, the 'antenna' is square not round.

Parade tractor , no water tank or coal bin on platform and 3 whisels . No way to add water to boiler , not a working field tractor . Seen big truck in back ground go by , trailer 40 to 50 feet long , twice as long as in the past at this time. Good try , but no cigar .
