I just started bowling again after a gap of about 35 years, due to back injuries and two surgeries. I had only bowled two seasons in my early thirties, so I’m still learning, but I had a 180 average before I got hurt. This season I bought a Storm Hyroad to start the season, which was pretty good, but I wanted more hook, so I got the Harsh Reality ball as soon as it was available and bowled a new personal best game of 252, and best series of 691 (230, 232, & 229), the first week I had it. I was really happy, but a few weeks later it started to hook less so I cleaned it every time I used it and got a 1000 grit sanding pad to restore the factory surface, which helped. I also bought a new Hammer Black Widow 3.0, and got a lesson from the local PBA member before I had it drilled. I asked for it to be drilled for maximum hook (unlike my Harsh Reality), and bowled my first league night with it a couple days ago. The Black Widow hooks a little more than my Harsh Reality ball, but that’s probably due to the drill pattern and not the ball. I did okay and bowled over my average, but I’m hoping to do better tonight at my 2nd league. I’ve improved from 155 average to 187, this season and hope to get up to 200 by next season, with my two new strong balls and a few more lessons.

Well first I would like to say welcome back to bowling. By chance did your Proshop guy get your PAP and other numbers? Also them are two very good balls you got there. If you want to get your average up there then remember spares, spares, spares will be how you get to averaging a 200.
@traveling.down.the.road567 ай бұрын
@@badbadbowling101 Thanks for the reply. Yes, I know that I have to improve my consistency at converting my spares. Learning 3 new balls in one season and also trying to remember the advice from two lessons is straining my 68 year old brain, but I think I’m making progress. Just had my third lesson and bowled a 200 with the Black Widow, and a 246 with the Harsh Reality after the lesson, so something must be sinking in. I have league tonight and hope that I can bowl some 200+ games to help my team. Which ball do you prefer? Edit: Yes, the proshop did get my PAP before drilling the Black Widow.

Love the movie Quotes, but I don't always know them....Really like that you are showing more than just the strikes, I think we really learn more from the misses!!
@badbadbowling1018 ай бұрын
Well thank you!! I agree with you I believe we learn more from misses as well. However from strikes you can learn entry angle, and how to adjust for 10 pins. The misses shows so much more like for example how the ball reads when you miss outside or when you miss inside. The movie quotes are just for fun like movie trivia to make things a little more fun.

Not knocking your video what so ever! But an "Out of Box" campairison. Would have been much better.. Since alot of viewers are league bowlers. So they wouldn't be messing with surface or compound much. But me Personally, I use a lot of polish and a lot of surface change! So this video I loved a lot! Just not for an average league bowler!
@badbadbowling1017 ай бұрын
Well, thank you! Well, I will say this when it comes to league bowlers you’re 100% right. My rebuttal to that is most league bowlers don’t play with surfaces because they don’t know they’re supposed too. Mostly, league bowlers don’t know anything about matching the surface to the lanes. So for all those league bowlers who don’t understand what it is, or how to do it, or even what it is all together. Don’t you think that maybe just possibly that should be spoken to about it? Shouldn’t someone show them? How can we help them improve if we aren’t educating them to best practices?
@cory17057 ай бұрын
@badbadbowling101 You are absolutely right! We as bowlers need to educate people and give them knowledge of how to become better bowler. "If they're serious about it," the first thing I like to tell people to learn.. is changing hand positions. Sometimes, a simple hand position change can make a difference! And if that doesn't work.. then I will show them how to use polish, and surface change and when to use it. Etc.
@badbadbowling1017 ай бұрын
@@cory1705 I feel like teaching someone how to change surface is a change that can be made right now. Teaching someone to change her position that person has to become comfortable with it which takes time.. however there is no wrong or right way my good brother.

Going to get the BW 3.0, I am coming off a completely worn out Reality, and I loved that ball, but I want to try something new. I see it as far a strength, Harsh #1, BW #2, MG #3. The reason I want to try the BW is because my Reality was simply too strong (early) at times, so I hope to be able to stay in the widow a little longer during league.
@badbadbowling1018 ай бұрын
Ok well the Columbia 300 Pure Madness is stronger than even the harsh reality. The BW 3.0 is different, and the reason it’s different is because it’s a big engine Asymmetrical that’s designed to have backend. The cover/core combination is designed to go long and have a ton of backend. When all other big engine balls read super easily.

A couple of things Coach C. I want to see a comparison between the Harsh Reality and the Absolute Power. I want to get one of them but I am having a hard time deciding which one to get… leaning towards the Power right now but I’m kinda torn because I like the AI core technology . I also want a good symmetrical ball and have been thinking Summit Peak. I know you don’t know my style but it’s close to yours although not as talented lol. Your thoughts would be appreciated. I currently throw the UFO Alert and an old Brunswick Power Groove.
@badbadbowling1018 ай бұрын
Sure I can do the Harsh reality and Absolute power. Also though I can tell you the Harsh reality is stronger. As far as symmetrical goes the summit peak is a good choice. However so is the Journey, Xponent pearl, Sublime, trouble maker just to name a few and you can’t lose with any of them.

@@joeypooschke7914 when he is getting your PAP today also have him get your tilt. Having your tilt is also important when it comes to drilling for you. If your PAP is like your fingerprints then the tilt is your finger. When coming up with your layout knowing your tilt can make the ball work the way it should for you. Also knowing your rotation is also helpful when designing a layout for your ball performance. Your Proshop guy is going to hate me because it’s a lot to do for a bowler they will say. However if you’re a tournament bowler you need all this done. The key is he can get all 3 done at the same time he is getting your PAP.
