I grew up in Seattle and during the years took the ferry a few times from downtown at the piers up through Puget Sound to Friday Harbor and Roach Harbor in the San Juans. Stay with friends on their large boat and spent some time catching shrimp and lobster using uncooked chicken in the nets. Then we caught the ferry in Friday Harbor and took it to Victoria Island. It was fantastic and gorgeous. Awesome cabins. God bless your daughter with healing very soon. The cabins look great yup need to be cleaned and sealed in that area for sure.

I’m currently going through chemo therapy myself right now and my prayers are for your daughter to have a complete recovery. Our Lord and Savior can heal our bodies and I feel that you are a good man from watching your videos. You are a very blessed man with a beautiful family that you take very good care of. I someday would love to have a log cabin built by you. I have watched all of your videos and eagerly wait for the next video. My wife and I went to Friday Harbor after getting married. I know what it's like to travel outside one's state to tend to the medical needs of a daughter! I was blessed 22 years tending to the needs of my daughter. What a beautiful area! Will the black come of the wood? What is the reasoning behind having a wider roof extension now? Have you ever had woodpeckers or flickers pecking at the logs? Thanks for taking us along on this adventure!

Cleaning the logs will take most of the black out. It’s surprisingly nice and bright after refinishing. We design longer roof overhangs and eaves now, to provide better weather protection for the logs.

Be sure to repair the gutter leaks at the eave-facia on all cabins and check that there is no wood damage. Dark stains are the tattle-tell signs. Don't forget to recommend adding stainless steel stove pipe vertical exhausts to solve the propane vent box black stain attacking the exterior logs. SS single wall stove pipe is available wholesale for very reasonable price. Last suggestion is to trim all the trees for no overhangs and more sunlight.

I just love your cabins. I don't mean any disrespect but why do the Amish living in the eastern part of the USA live like they are still dwelling in the past of the old west over a hundred years old? I am just curious. How often should a cabin be refinished on the outside to preserve it from weather elements?

The answer to your first question might take a while.....it’s a bit complex. In our community and in an increasing number of communities we believe we can still be Amish, Love Jesus, love our neighbors, live in community and use technology. Why not? The answer to your second question is a little simpler. The log should be re-coated with stain between every eight and 20 years but so much depends on the location.
