You are a sweetheart 😆 I have had this routine more or less memorized for over 10 years because I watched Kings of Comedy so much, and it never once occurred to me that "If a fire breaks out, you better have a whistle or a horn" could be coming from a place of concern and affection. I hope you hold onto that positivity long into the future.

Maddy, gotta tell ya that while Bernie Mac's language was VERY salty, he was/is still one of my absolute favorite comics. Laugh so hard it feels like your stomach just got a workout lol. When I suddenly found out Bernie had died, I cried for a good bit. TOTALLY floored me because I don't remember reading and/or hearing anything about Bernie being sick. Next thing I know he's dead :( Bernie, Mitch Hedberg, and the late, GREAT Patrice O'Neal were my go-tos for making sure I LOLOL.

Good Times is a classic tv series from the 1970’s. This was a spinoff from Maude which was a spinoff of All in the Family. Esther Rolle played the maid on Maude and the character earned a series. Norman Lear saw a huge following for the stand up comedian Jimmie Walker who played the oldest son JJ and slowly marketed him as the star although the main leads were Esther Rolle who played the matriarch Florida Evans and her on screen husband James Evans Sr. played by John Amos who recently passed away (RIP to the legend). This series is a staple for many black families and celebrates its place in history.

Maddy, if you don't watch "Good Times" in it's entirety (season 1 to the very last show), I will be disappointed in you. The show will make you laugh, cry, and think. The characters were not always right, but they loved each other and they stuck by each other. They showed that a strong family can survive the hardest times.

Bernie was known to be a family man--married early, had successful kids--so my guess with "swinging" was "having fun." "Swinging" didn't come to mean what it does today until the very late 60s at least. Bernie was old enough to have learned the mid-century version of the term, where "swinging" mean "partying." EX: there's a great '90s movie called SWINGERS which is about a bunch of bros going out on the town trying to have fun; it has nothing to do with wife-swapping.

He meant that he and his wife were living care free. Swinging, in this case, refers to dancing to swing music, which returned to the mainstream in the 90s. Search 'Swing Revival'.

M - I hope you have a chance to check out one of the funniest comedians of the 20th century -- Flip Wilson. His skits (in drag) as "Geraldine" are hilarious. I guess he did humorous characters most of his life, but he perfected "Geraldine" while serving as a GI in the Korean War. During the 4 seasons "The Flip Wilson Show" ran on NBC (1970 - 1974), he showcased the top talent of that era. A few names you'll recognize: Aretha Franklin, Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, Ella Fitzgerald, George Carlin, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Harry Belafonte, James Brown, Johnny Cash & June Carter, Jonathan Winters, Louis Armstrong, Lucille Ball, Moms Mabley, Ray Charles, Richard Pryor, Sammy Davis, Jr., Stevie Wonder, The Jackson Five, The Pointer Sisters, The Supremes, The Temptations, Tim Conway, and many, many others. One of the funniest of his "Geraldine" skits featured "Broadway Joe Namath" - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZiVl4mGophna9U
