I love Fleer Metal!! Beautiful cards!! Back in the 90s I bought a Michael Jordan scoring magnet from my LCS. It was a really great looking card and I was hooked on Fleer Metal. Still have the card in my PC.

+Michael Stahl agreed. Fleer Metal hasn’t disappointed collectors since it came out in 1995

I wish I would've bought some fleer metal packs in 97. I got out of the hobby back then. Back into collecting. Mid to late 90s cards were awesome.
@90sbballcards4 жыл бұрын
Yeah. One of those great hindsight is 20/20 situations. 1997 Fleet Metal wasn't a very popular product when it came out. Boy how times have changed

Man the cyber metal prolly most underrated insert set imo for series 2 and I just so happen to still have my kobe which is just sick looking with the robot like design in the background!! Think those were like 1:6 the kobe being much tougher and a hard grade like most this stuff!!

Great cards! Have a few of these sitting in my collection, but none of the big inserts. I think you may want to check your smoke detector battery. Sounded like one in the background beeping.

+stpcardcollector they are all awesome looking cards! Big inserts or base. Ya I noticed that when I was editing but I didn’t notice it during filming. I’ll have to look into it. Thanks.

My relationship with Metal in the 90's was about the same as every other collector: Mid-tier pomp & gaud that offered a bit more than Topps. I never expected anything mind-blowing from these packs but I did buy them in bunches as they were affordable. And I'm glad I did bc these days Metal is kind of a legend, one that nobody expected.

hey jake, in the simplest terms.....why is 97-98 fleer metal universe #23 creeping up in value? Is it comparable to a 93/94 scoring king? Is it a better made card that doesn't degrade like a SK? Is it the next version/upgrade after topps finest style cards?
@90sbballcards4 жыл бұрын
Hey, great question. the simplest answer is because the base is the closest many people can get to the record setting PMG Green. With the popularity of PMGs now, he base version started to take off as well. but the prices can tend to have rather wild swings.

You say the lenticular Molten Metal are typically in very good condition 5:00 but there are actually no PSA 10s and very few 9s.... could you clarify?
@90sbballcards2 жыл бұрын
Pop counts aren’t always a great reflection of a cards’ typical condition. There are lots of cards that just aren’t graded often and sit with collectors for long periods of time. So this is based on looking at 100s cards in person and in photos. The lenticular cards are made with a plastic which is more resilient than cardboard
@damonarvid35482 жыл бұрын
@@90sbballcards I am guessing though that this is not the case for this specific lenticular. Remember, this is the ribbed type that scratches easily. I think there are minute surface imperfections on 99 percent of this already super rare pull.
@90sbballcards2 жыл бұрын
@@damonarvid3548 no. That’s not correct. It’s a misconception that the ribbed surface makes these more susceptible to scratches. Remember these are made of hard plastic. Much like plastic acetate cards. Which scratches are possible. On those centering and the adherence of any foil is more common the cause of condition issues. These lenticular cards in this product utilize the same technology of the 2 lenticular sets that preceded it as well as 2 more in the same year and 1 more after this. The cause of condition issues were typically found on the backs of these cards. These lenticular cards and the multitude of other like it in fact tend to grade better than any cardboard cards produced in the era.
@damonarvid35482 жыл бұрын
@@90sbballcards Hm I'll defer but I will investigate further.... the 90s Kidd collector I got it from in Cebu was sure it was not only very rare, but almost never grades high. And just holding it in hand I see how difficult even a 9 would be. It's the cutting process they used on this particular card, more than anything. Edges are almost never clean. I would pray for a 9.5 on this one, but then there never has been a Molten Metal 1st series 9.5, so chances are not good.

I did open some of those for Baseball. As for the Basketball, I'd love to! I'm open to donations. Retail packs sell for about $120 each. Hobby packs sell for over $200 each. If someone can supply them I'd be happy to rip them and share ALL the details about that set.
