The 90s felt so much more free and safer. Being a kid in the 90s was awesome. No phones and, at least with me, playing computers was a rainy day idea just to pass the time. Outside on bikes or playing football until the streetlights came on, that was our call to go home. Almost all of my favourite films and shows are from this time and i don't think they'll ever be replaced. 90s just hit differently and I'm not ashamed to admit that, i frequently have moments where that nostalgia comes flooding back. Can confirm that it exists in a more dimly lit form in the midwest USA. We're running about 20 years behind the rest of the US, somewhat by design - but the culture is changing from the youth on up because of social media and other factors, so the 90s culture is for sure waning even in the places where its remnants still exist.

I was born in the early '80s, grew up in the '90s, and today I live in a beautiful community in Colorado with my wife and our two young sons. This lifestyle does still exist in the United States and Canada, though it is harder to find, increasingly out of reach for many, and we have far more serious worries and concerns than our parents did raising us in the '90s, which were a time of unprecedented peace and stability. Still, we live a wonderful life, we are comfortable, our kids are happy, and my heart is filled with gratitude for everything America has given me. I wish this for everyone, and if we work at it and keep the faith, we can get there.

The nostalgic, cinematic music reminds me of all those great kids movies we got back then, and the notion of knowing you could be outside until it was dark, on your bike, a backpack full of snacks and drinks, and your mates by your side. Some of these are from the 80s but still, the aesthetic remained. There was always a little boy with checkered plaid oversized shirts and curtained blonde hair that split down the middle and covered his face on the left and right side only. There's always a scene of running down the stairs with a skateboard, moving home and feeling sad, struggling in school, high school romance....ahhhh gives me warm feelings inside.

I think what I liked best about the 90s when I look back is the lack of true responsibilities. Now, as a mother of 2, my mind is constantly focused on some sort of 'to do' lists or work. I almost always know what the next day will bring. I loved being a kid in the 90s, free of social media, never knowing what my weekends plans were going to be and just living in the moment. How freeing! I hope I can give my children that same sense of freedom, at least for awhile.
@awill39922 ай бұрын
Even as a childfree 80s baby my mind is still filled with endless to do list although I intentionally created a life that was more carefree. I live overseas 6 months of the year and explore and I come home to America for 6 months. I feel bad when I get back seeing how overworked, underpaid, and disconnected everyone is. Hearing this music honestly makes me cry. The 90s was my decade. I'm 33 years old now and I miss how happy and family and neighbor oriented everyone was. Back when someone could ring your doorbell and you'd open it without thinking twice because life felt safer in a way. You'd go out to play with your friends, ride your bike until the sunset told you it was time to go home because your mom was just about serving dinner. There was so much peace back then. I wish that for us in this new era. I truly hope we find that peaceful collective society we used to live in without all the fighting, hate, and division. When you think about it, none of us are any different. We all want love, kindness, and peace. It all starts at home and how we treat each other and I believe us humans still have that goodness in us.

All I can think of when I hear and see this. Coming home from school, getting off the bus and saying bye to my friends that I'll see the next day. Getting home to my mom cooking and yelling at me to get my homework done so I can get ready for dinner. When you're done with homework and dinner, you can hear your neighbor friends calling your name so you can go outside to play, ride bikes, play kickball all until that light comes on at the light post that lets you know it's time to go inside. Good times 🙂

So many precious moments that happened before cell phone. I'm so thankful I could experience all of those. Now I'm 34 and thinking all about the bills lol.

I think that those of us who lived through the 90s are particularly nostalgic about it is because it was the end of an era in our society. Computers were becoming more mainstream, the internet was coming, 9/11 happened...Looking back we seemed to have an innocence about us then. We couldn't really text our friends yet or use AOL yet. You had to call them or get on your bike and go to their house. Christmas was commercialized, but not to the extent it is today. Sports were also commercialized but not as much as today. You could have a part time job after school and use that money to actually buy things. Part-time jobs now don't seem to cover as much anymore. These kinds of things seemed to end with the 90's.

I found myself getting teary-eyed while listening to the film scores of the past. Someone remarked how they evoked a sense of the goodness of life, optimism, and hope. It made me wonder-could it be true that today we mostly feel jaded and cynical? Of course, it’s easy to point fingers, to blame those who we think have taken that optimism and hope from us. But beyond the ideological debates, I wonder if it might help to take a moment and ask ourselves, “When did I stop hoping? When did I stop seeing the goodness of life?” I can’t help but think there’s something else at play, something we may have lost as we’ve aged in a world that’s increasingly technological and polarized. Could it be that the innocence and simplicity of childhood are what truly underpinned that optimism and hope? If so, perhaps these qualities are what we need to rediscover in ourselves. For those of us who are parents, might we have an even greater responsibility? If we struggle to reclaim these things for ourselves, could we find the courage to do it for our children, and in doing so, perhaps start to turn things around?

Sometimes I wonder if I was just looking at it through rose coloured glasses but I remember the world was so beautiful in the 90s. There were so many things for children to enjoy… all the toys, movies, music and shows. Plus all the friends you can easily make just by hanging around outside your house. Lols. I really miss those days.

Gosh, there are some parts in these songs that sound so whimsical, magical and hopeful! Very childlike and they make my eyes water. It reminds me so much of how I used to see the world and it was in part of the kids' media of that time. A lot of movies, shows and cartoons depicted kids playing outside, riding bikes, playing baseball, skating, having secret clubhouses and staying out until the sun went down or a little later. They loved playing, eating sweets and junk food, parties, just having fun. They made me want to play outside with the neighborhood kids and have a secret hangout, but my mom was always so cautious of the city we lived in, that my siblings and I played outside often, but we were also encouraged to stay indoors often too. We couldn't go farther than the house next door. I know it was for safety reasons, but I wish we got to explore more of the neighborhood. We did, however get to walk around the block once my brother and I were in middle school. Haha. Ah, childhood.

Those 90s TV American cities are so dreamlike that I wonder if they actually exist in real life. When I was a kid, my greatest wish was to live in those beautiful and wholesome neighborhoods.

Opening moments show kid and his dog riding his bike. Kid narrator: it was summer time again. School had just let out and after moving to this new neighborhood I knew that this summer would be different. That kid there? Oh, that’s my new best friend Danny and his dog Chester. All of us were ready for what ever happened next.

I was born in 92 and my memories of being a kid in the late 90's are great. It seemed like everything had more balance, it was like a perfect balance of technology and human interaction. The early 00's were still a bit like this but of course it was never the same after 2001. A happy 90's childhood soon turned into us becoming young adults in an increasingly hostile and dangerous hate filled world.

tearing up at these beautiful pieces. I'm brought back to a time where I was carefree, stress free, and just free to be myself...a kid. Playing with my best friends, being outside, picking flowers and exploring the wonders of life. I was so happy, and I was content in who I was. Now here I am as an adult, constantly sobbing and feeling dragged down by the pressures of adulthood. Longing for a connection and meaning to life. These songs bring back the joy and wonder I once felt so long ago.

I'm from the 70's, however, the atmosphere and the music and the comments have reminded me of my youth. The world was much better before 2000, we would never have imagined that life would change so much. Thank you for this music, it has moved me... ❤

Man, what nostalgia this brings me. School mornings, I'd wait for my best friends to come to my house on their bikes and park em in my backyard and then we'd walk to school together through a field where we'd spend hours at after school playing football and baseball. Or weekends where my parents would take my siblings and I, along with family friends, to the pier an hour away and do some crabbing and camping. Trying to beat my late brother at basketball all the time but failed. Boy do I miss him so much. The 90s were the best years of my life. I am 43 now and am so thankful I lived in that era.

In 1997 I was 5 years young, excited to go to school at Toyon Elementary in Alum Rock Hills of San Jose California. I cherished those childhood memories. Toyon was across from Penitencia Creek where my brother, his friends and I would run to after school to go swimming in the creek. We would swing off the ropes, find cool bugs and have the best time. I was always going on little adventures outside to see what stories I could bring back to my little books I wrote. We would get to illustrate them at school in the Book Publishing Room. Our inner children are reconnecting with these amazing childhood memories. 🥹

This is bittersweet! Beautiful! This is when I can appreciate technology to take us back to the good days! . It’s also sad how social media has taken us in the wrong way. Kids are too grown and we idolized the wrong people. We just need to be kind to one another. Tomorrow is not promised. Love one another! Put God first.

Best time of my life. I had so much friends. We were always outside playing all kind of games. That time staying a home was punishment. Now we are 41 and we have a kid, hopefully two soon, and its little bit like to experience childhood again. But there is not so much childrens outside like in 90s, that for sure. When I was a kid, it was exactly 30 kids in ours house block, now is two.

Was born in 1989, the easiest way i can describe what being a kid in the 90's was like would be to simply say we were the genuinely last generation of kids to not grow up completely dependent on technology. Yes computers were around ofcourse but not alot of familes had them tbh. The world felt like a bigger place because we werent as connected with everyone and everything yet.
