I'm curious what different types of ammunition will do. It should be safe in theory. If not you could always empty the powder out and put the bullet back in. It would be cool to see different calibers and brass case VS steel and aluminum.

How do you get audio from inside the canister? Any mic would be subjected to the same ocean pressure as the test subjects, yes?

The real issue with those watches was that once the case was opened to change the battery the seal was broken, and the warranty void.

I thought it was interesting to notice that the pressure got high enough on the Timex to push the buttons in just before the water was visible on the inside, made me wonder if it was the button that leaked, or the plastic window... Great channel!!!

Super nice pressure test rig! It's hard to build decent one with windows and seems that you have had some of the same problems also as I have faced. I must admit that yours is much nicer than my version that I built from hydraulic cylinder with some sight glasses on both ends. I am not sure do you have some kind of quick release valve / burst disc in case some chemical reaction from batteries etc. starts to produce a lot of high pressure gasses or not sure is that even necessary. But that's one safety issue that I recognized myself before testing stuff like cellphones etc. with larger batteries. You probably know better is that even a thing?

Thanks! Yeah, there aren't many options out there for sight glasses at these extreme pressures and large apertures. The custom one I ordered cracked so I ended up making one myself. I was fighting leakage issues for a while. Even the thread sealants that are rated to 10,000 psi ended up leaking. Your set up is nice as well because you don't need to worry about any internal components. The windows on my lamps are still holding but I can see tiny internal stress fractures forming within. I do have a pressure relief valve set to the design pressure at 8700 psi but I'm not worried about chemical reactions from batteries. Lithium batteries are made from flammable materials and when heated or shorted, which flooding it with water would do, could start a chemical reaction. The reaction is exothermic but for an explosion to occur it needs an oxidizer and would be a "thermal runaway". The presence of water would eliminate that I would imagine. If any gases do form it would quickly compress and dissolve in the water due to the pressure. Love your channel. Thanks for the sub!

I know all these watches tell you not to use the pushers under water. I wonder if the surprising resistance is down to this being sort of a best case scenario. No one is wearing the watch, banging it around, pushing buttons, etc. Anyway gives me a lot more confidence wearing my T80 in the rain!

I'd be interested to see how some inexpensive analog dive watches hold up. Maybe something like a Casio Duro as a quartz example, and a Vostok Amphibia or Invicta Pro Diver Automatic as a mechanical example? Those are some fairly popular watches in that segment, and so it might net you some additional engagement.
