Why does everyone get this wrong? Blancpain is not the oldest watchmaker in the world. The oldest is Gallet & Co. Founded in 1466, that’s 558yrs of operation!! To top it off, they are still independently owned family company to this day. A long time ago I was participating in a watch forum and this same statement came up, to which I replied as I just did. Much to my surprise, I received a reply from Nicholas Hayek Sr, pointing out that I was indeed correct, and jokingly ended with they still won’t sell the company to me. I saved that email, I think I will have to look it up in my backups, so I can post a screenshot of it. Great channel Andrew, I am rooting for your success!!

The issue with Blancpain is they are expensive and don't offer the value prop or features seasoned collectors value such as proper proportions. Problem is Rolex likes this situation. Despite many models being valued now below retail prices, it’s still fueling hype, scarcity and manufactured prestige. You’re right about the Rolex purchase experience - it stinks. I walked into a VC boutique on 57th Street in Manhattan, was treated like a valued customer and came out ordering an Overseas Chronograph. What a much better experience. The Rolex authorized dealers I have walked into in Manhattan (where I live) won’t give me the time of day as a customer and I have numerous Rolex watches. Arrogance is a very off-putting thing when you’re trying to buy a luxury time.

Andrew quoting Abraham Louis Breguet Simpson is almost perfect. Just needed to hang an onion off his belt. Which was the style at the time.

I’m selfishly happy to see Breguet continue to become less popular as I’ve been window shopping their pieces for a while. The 7057 and 7097 are now designs within reach, not to mention a handful of absolutely gorgeous Classique models. A white gold Breguet Classique to me is one of the ultimate sleepers and the variety available for Rolex OP41 money is irresistible. My wife already has an OP34 red grape, so I have no need to see one on my own wrist.

Solid take, I agree.

The concept that mechanical watches are inherently classier and cooler than quartz watches was almost entirely invented by Biver. It's the equivalent of responding to the proliferation of 5G smartphones by saying 3G flip phones are what people of good taste use, and that the grainy audio and LCD screen are romantic -- and having the entire world believe you.

Yo great stuff! I'm not a fan of sci-fi but seriously considering checking out the books, esp. if they are anything like the narration here. Cheers, Andrew!

A great upload Andrew, and a eye opener, but i have to disagree with you about Breguet,it has and always will have " IT " as you so kindly put it, trends in technology and what people buy will come and go but Breguet as a brand and its Timepieces will always have a certain Genesis quo, which will always have a place in our hearts.

That SHOULD be true, but for all its riches, Breguet is at present a has-been. Prime candidate for some attention.

Maybe at present, but quality and history, Always shine through.
