Andrew, this video demonstrates why you are on people's top 10 list of favorite watch KZbinrs. Not only is your voice so velvety that it could soothe a rabid tiger into docility, but your commentary is so wonderfully witty, so replete with memorable one liners, puns and humorous analogies that you could put most stand-up comedians to shame. Even if someone were not into watches, I would recommend them listening to your commentary on watches to illustrate what a wordsmith truly is!

Why does everyone get this wrong? Blancpain is not the oldest watchmaker in the world. The oldest is Gallet & Co. Founded in 1466, that’s 558yrs of operation!! To top it off, they are still independently owned family company to this day. A long time ago I was participating in a watch forum and this same statement came up, to which I replied as I just did. Much to my surprise, I received a reply from Nicholas Hayek Sr, pointing out that I was indeed correct, and jokingly ended with they still won’t sell the company to me. I saved that email, I think I will have to look it up in my backups, so I can post a screenshot of it. Great channel Andrew, I am rooting for your success!!

The issue with Blancpain is they are expensive and don't offer the value prop or features seasoned collectors value such as proper proportions. What do they offer over a Rolex Submariner besides some "history" and "better finishing". If that is all they can sell and it wears like a hockey puck they will remain where they are.

Problem is Rolex likes this situation. Despite many models being valued now below retail prices, it’s still fueling hype, scarcity and manufactured prestige. The most desired models are still vastly unavailable. It allows Rolex to raise prices systematically and therefore increase their profits. I’m afraid in the next 20 years we’ll see a decline in the industry and no one will land harder on their ass, than Rolex.

The reason Breguet attracts so much opprobrium is because this channel's audience is made up not just of watch enthusiasts but sports-watch addicts in leisure suits and mouthbreathing "investors". Breguet doesn't really do sports watches, and doesn't lie like Rolex in its advertising to people of limited critical-thinking capability. So it's an easy one to shoot at for the likes.

Leisure suits, trainers and hoodies indeed! I couldn’t agree more on the excellence of Manufacture Breguet. It’s a Haute Horologerie brand that caters to a sophisticated clientele with an appreciation for an old world ascetic. Breguet doesn’t embrace hype but rather distinguishes itself from any sports watch motif. The Type 20 & Marine lies are as close as one could get to sports, with a little imagination.

Absolutely correct....in my mind rolex had become quite sickly thesr days....majority of folk use it as a tool for showing off, there is no appreciation of horilogy there..breguet is the polar opposite...I would be so proud to own a breguet one day...

Baume & Mercier wristwatches are total crap. I own one. It has never kept exact time, despite being returned on several occasions. And without any warning five years into owning it, the crown fell off. 😢 These watches are a scam. You pay 5kCHF+ for a wristwatch and you can get a more reliable and robust timepiece for under 50CHF from Casio.

I just took delivery of a Rolex Sprite, it took me two years, five months and four days but I had zero purchase history, I was just annoying and stopped in every month or two to play with the display model. That being said I had a great purchase experience when my time came and it felt like a dream, the sprite was the only model Rolex has made that caught my eye and it will be going in many adventures with me.

A Rolex was always extra. You have got to judge the design in the time it was made, and compare it to watches from the same era. The jublee bracelet and fluted bezel, two tone or gold colors, they have always been flashy status symbols. There were always more subtle alternatives available.

Rippped off, conned, scammed, beaten up etc.......Nothing worse than paying £5K for a Spaghetti Scametti! Who would have thought that such a (Allegedly) well respected brand would actually turn out to be a rip off at such a price??

I’m only into Breguet and Blancpain being “worst” brands and I am reminded of an article I read circa 2018 that Rolex was done- boring, no innovation same watches for past 40 years, your father’s watch, etc. 😂😂😂. Good luck Andrew. 😢

Putting Breguet on this list really annoys me. What they're guilty of is not exploiting their brand and churning out overpriced stainless steel sports watches. They are what they are which are high horology watches that exhibit amazing levels of craftsmanship. A classique blows a calatrava out of the water in terms of what you are actually getting.

You’re right about the Rolex purchase experience - it stinks. I walked into a VC boutique on 57th Street in Manhattan, was treated like a valued customer and came out ordering an Overseas Chronograph. What a much better experience. The Rolex authorized dealers I have walked into in Manhattan (where I live) won’t give me the time of day as a customer and I have numerous Rolex watches. Arrogance is a very off-putting thing when you’re trying to buy a luxury time.

I’m selfishly happy to see Breguet continue to become less popular as I’ve been window shopping their pieces for a while. The 7057 and 7097 are now designs within reach, not to mention a handful of absolutely gorgeous Classique models. A white gold Breguet Classique to me is one of the ultimate sleepers and the variety available for Rolex OP41 money is irresistible. My wife already has an OP34 red grape, so I have no need to see one on my own wrist.

The concept that mechanical watches are inherently classier and cooler than quartz watches was almost entirely invented by Biver. It's the equivalent of responding to the proliferation of 5G smartphones by saying 3G flip phones are what people of good taste use, and that the grainy audio and LCD screen are romantic -- and having the entire world believe you.

A great upload Andrew, and a eye opener, but i have to disagree with you about Breguet,it has and always will have " IT " as you so kindly put it, trends in technology and what people buy will come and go but Breguet as a brand and its Timepieces will always have a certain Genesis quo, which will always have a place in our hearts.
