In 2004, after years of arguments and disputations, the time traveling reporter and the host of "The 90s" finally reached an agreement: the reporter was supposed to return to his original timeline, and then tell the host how he was going to die. Sadly, the time machine could only control what *time* the traveler will appear in, while he appears in a completely random place. So when the reporter was back in 2004, he was zapped into a random point in the studio and fell from the air. Luckily, the host's nape was right there to break the fall.

So how do people get around in the future, well you see we used to have these things called trains that would run on tracks that could carry thousands and thousands of people an hour to lots of different destinations, what we’ve done in the future is super cool, we have used tunnels that are really small, replaced them with Tesla cars so they can only carry three or four people maximum at a time, and we just pay drivers to go around a loop that’s 2 km long, and the best part is, it’s only a one-way loop and we didn’t have to worry about fire escapes or anything. But there are some cool LED lights. Isn’t the future efficient? I can’t believe we fixed traffic in the future.

A glamorous shiny futuristic sparkling invention from the most hype billionaire based on cars ? Let’s throw cash at it !! As for wether it’s better than nothing : there is a more accurate question. Since they were going to dug the tunnel and put money in a project anyway, what’s the better option ? The one with bigger capacity, existing and tested blueprints, lesser risk of failure, that is cheaper and more secure ? Or the option that is extremely expensive, extremely prone to failure, less durable, less efficient and more dangerous ? Answer should be obvious, but blinded by the Elon hype, city of Las Vegas didn’t see it… which to be honest, isn’t really surprising given the city…

That's because, like most financial and even social systems, it runs on belief and speculation. The stock market would completely collapse if most of the people who participated in it just...did something else. Same with banks, same with religion, social etiquette, social media, you name it. These are all systems propped up by pure belief in said systems.

@@ChickenPizza That's not a good analogy. The stock market is better described with "hope" - because it's quite easy to lose hope. And in fact the entire stock market just a bunch of people getting together in "hope" the money they spend will turn them a profit. And anything that threatens that hope, like someone with massive influence, can tumble the entire thing. Whereas religious belief is very hard to overcome, even if bad things happen.

You have to believe something is at least possible, otherwise hoping for it wouldn't even make logical sense. There is no analogy here - this is how society generally functions.
