911 First Responders Model Train Video

This model train video features the G-scale version of the Norfolk Southern 911 First Responders train on my layout, along with several other big model trains from MTH, LGB, and Piko.
The tracks run throughout my house and in to my garage.
There are actually three independent layouts within the overall layout, and a total of five G scale model trains running all at the same time. Three power supplies are used for the three independent loops within the big layout.
In addition to the Norfolk Southern train, there's also a Santa Fe Dash 8 diesel locomotive pulling freight cars... an Amtrak locomotive providing passenger service, a White Pass & Yukon Route Railway steam locomotive pulling passenger cars, and the Santa Fe Super Chief. You can see Thomas & Friends in the train yard, but they've been in a lot of my other videos so I gave them a rest in this one!

Reminds me of wonderful times with my Grandfather back in the ‘50s. You’d have loved his setup! He worked 50 years on the railroad. He passed when I was 5. That was 62 years ago, thanks for the memories of a precious time with a great man.

Explore my channel a little further and you'll see that I do lots of different kinds of layouts. The one in this particular was very simple compared to some of the others I've done. When I have multiple trains running on one set of tracks, I keep them from catching up to each other by adjusting the speeds via an app on a tablet that I carry around with me. Usually as I'm shooting a video, I'm walking around behind the camera, following the train, with my tablet and the controls. You can't see me because the camera is pointed forward and I'm walking along behind it... but I'm right there controlling everything. If you have time, take a look at some of the other model train videos on my channel and you'll see some much more complex layouts than the one shown in this video. This particular layout was an easy one that I literally put together quickly, made a quick video, and took it all down again... all in one day! Usually I take a lot more time than that, and make a more complicated layout... but this one was just a quickie.

Did MTH not make a caboose for this set? Looks a little incomplete without one, but still a smart looking train nonetheless. One of the club members I set up with at a show a couple years back had one of these models, but in O gauge. If I'm correct, his was also by MTH through their Rail King line.

I like the Norfolk Southern Railway Honoring First Responders train #911, the Santa Fe General Electric Dash 8-40CW #868, and the Amtrak passenger train #500 from MTH Electric Trains running on the layout. Oriented Strand Board. It's similar to plywood, but less expensive and possibly stronger. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oriented_strand_board

@@JimZim Ah, Oriented Strand Board. It is less expensive than plywood and really possibly strong. You used that to build projects like the Puppy Palace in California and you saved all of that for future projects. What other projects will you have when you are using the Oriented Strand Board, besides using it as an easy way to get the G scale model train tracks to a good transition up and down between the flooring of the house in California and Washington and the cement of the garage? I think the BNSF GE Dash 8-40CW diesel locomotive. Just let me know when you are going to get the fourth MTH brand GE Dash 8-40CW diesel locomotive. @@JimZim I'm so sorry about MTH Electric Trains going out of business, but I think you're still going to get the BNSF EMD SD70ACE AH diesel locomotive #9370 you need to add to your collection of G scale model trains. Well Jim Zim, here is the good news and the bad news. I'll start with the bad news. The bad news is MTH Electric Trains has announced in May of this year that they are going out of business. But the good news is MTH Electric Trains is going to move to a new location and they will upgrade the parts store and keep on making more and even more steam and diesel locomotives including the General Electric Dash 8-40CW diesel locomotives in the paint schemes of the remaining railways that will eventually to be added to your collection of G scale model trains. Also, if you sign up for their email list, they will let you know when they have a special sale... which tends to occur on just about every holiday. For example, on MLK day the other day, they offered free shipping.
