You mentioned Altoona Pa., you weren’t too far away from (Attalla) Altoona Al., another railroad related town, due to its ore mines that supplied the steel industry in Birmingham.

Great chase of the Norfolk Southern's Hazmat Safety Train from Chattanooga, Tennessee to Reese City, Alabama where the train had to stop on a siding to allow other trains to pass it. SD60E #9-1-1 and GP38-2 #5642 on the headend made for a great train consist. David Burris in his comment mentioned that CSX had a Hazmat Safety Training train. Canadian National also has a Hazmat Safety Training Train too. I have seen some of their Safety Training tank cars sitting near the Woodcrest Shops of the Canadian National (former Illinois Central Railroad) in East Hazel Crest, Illinois. Thank you, Drayton, for chasing this train and for producing this video for us to enjoy!

I have gotten tired of seeing comments on how bad NS was in Ohio. Derailments happen every day on ANY RAILROAD and can happen at ANY MOMENT. Yes this was a bad derailment but it is not the first look back in history hell one town was wipe off the map in Canada. We did learn that the covers can melt and not allow tank cars to vent safely. NS stepped up and did what they could what did our government , the shipper and receiver do??? FYI railroads can't reject loads they have to be moved per federal law
@nikerailfanningttm9046 Жыл бұрын
Actually railroads *CAN REJECT A LOAD* the FRA allows it. Check your shit before posting noob. The Government does not run every railroad!

I could see a _Far Side_ or _Bizarro_ comic showing this train derailed en route to a derailment. Thank you for sharing. Gorgeous camera angles, especially with the College.

From our understanding, the locomotives and OAR consist were towed by another train.
@SteelRailInteractive Жыл бұрын
@@DelayInBlockProductions It was. The train & the 38 were towed to Cincinnati, and 911 came on another train. 911 was on local duty while the train was doing training in Cincinnati. After the training in Cincinnati, they went up to Columbus as a pair. I have a video of it in Sharonville Ohio on my channel. 171 picked it up in Columbus on its way south after it was done in Columbus. Thats what my understanding is & what I saw.

@MRantzWI Жыл бұрын
Very cool!! Way to go Norfolk !!! I wonder. During the multiple day training that you provide. Does it include 1 full day of training simulation where you derail 5 of the tanker cars, light them on fire, and then rather than trying to properly cool them down, you place explosives on the cars and then blow them up ?? You know a simulated "Vent and Burn." Then do you also provide some training on the quickest and quietest way of clearing the exploded cars, covering the toxic pit of chemicals not burned up, and how to stage your teams of people brought in (even before the "Vent and Burn" was completed) to repair your tracks ASAP ? Do you include all that training as well ?
