Whats the difference between a Mezger engine and a DFI? What makes the former so special and why did they ditch it?

I'm in the process of configuring my gt3 touring this week! The 911r was my dream car but couldn't afford it, so as soon as the gt3 touring was announced i booked one. Waiting to see your video comparing the two. Hopefully they are very similar.

Got to love a 911, no matter which one you choose I have a 2007 Cayman S with manual and love it I would choose the GT3 for myself if I had the money! 😂 Hate the way speculators pushed the R up in value, no way is it worth a GT3 plus a 911 turbo and a GT4 in value 😳
@porschecollector7276 жыл бұрын
John S yup. Was pure speculative push by resellers. I never even looked towards 911r. Nothing remarkable about it.

I've subscribed to many channels on KZbin but this is one of my favourite by far. It must take a really long time to edit these videos so that they are all 9 minutes 11 seconds long! Appreciate the dedication there. From a Porsche magazine that compared a 911R against a 997.2 RS 4.0 and 991.1 GT3RS, if I can recall correctly, it stated that the 911R felt pretty unstable at high speed braking on the autobahn with its lack of aero. I'm super excited to see if there are subjective+objective differences (aside from the obvious appearance differences) between the 911R and 991.2 GT3 Touring pack in your Pt 2 video. Perhaps the 911R will be 30-40kg lighter so that it might feel more 'lively'? But the increased torque from lower RPMs with the newer 991.2 GT3 engine might perhaps overcome those weight differences? I would love to fit -14.5kg lighter magnesium wheels from Manthey Racing and lightweight aftermarket exhaust system onto a Touring Pack and compare that to a 911R , if I had the money for that luxury of course 😂
@9WERKSTV6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for the kind words, that means a lot! Yes, the R doesn't hunker to the floor in the same way an RS does past 100mph as the aero on the modern Rennsports gives incredible downforce. Without giving too much away for part 2, I was surprised how different again the Touring was to the manual Clubsport, Porsche is superb at showing there's more than one way to skin a cat. Love your comments re: Manthey wheels and aftermarket exhaust, may well reduce weight but the R has a finesse to its mechanicals that - so far - is yet to be matched. What a car!

Great job Lee, really enjoy seeing this comparison and looking forward to part 2 with the GT3 Touring pack. Interesting to hear the difference in engine sound and overall road noise coming through in the 911 R. Does the 911 R engine feel grittier. Maybe a little buzz compared to the GT3 or vice versa. The GT3 engine just sounds more refined. Love both cars and to own either one would be a dream come true. keep up the great work!!

I wish Porsche would allow customers to customize cars with options they actually want. #1 Rear seat delete on all models. Gorilla Glass options, center spoke wheel options, paint to sample break calipers, sunroof option on GT cars etc. You shouldn’t have to pay $300,000+ to design a Porsche Exclusive Edition. Ferrari will literally allow customers to design the body style of their custom car.

Gotta wonder how many miles are on each car. If the 911R is well "broken in" and the GT3 is new, I wonder if the gearbox will loosen up a bit once you have more miles on the GT3.
@9WERKSTV6 жыл бұрын
Happy to report the R has nearly 5k on the clock and is used hard. Even did a track day in Oct! Re: GT3 gearbox, I've some interesting observations in part 2, as the Touring is different again!

How many miles on the GT3 in this vid?
@9WERKSTV6 жыл бұрын
1100, IIRC.
@FourT6and226 жыл бұрын
I would expect the personality of the car to change a bit once it's broken in. People are reporting the transmission, clutch, engine, exhaust, suspension, etc... all change after 2-3K miles.
@9WERKSTV6 жыл бұрын
GT3 is a press car which frankly is hammered from the get-go, 1100-odd miles would all be hard miles. Thanks for your opinion.

Great video again Lee and interested to see how the 911 GT3 Touring stacks up, I suspect it may just have the edge. I have a 991.1 GTS tucked away in the garage and the GT3 Touring would be a great car to have next if Porsche built a few more for enthusiasts
@9WERKSTV6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Gareth! 991.1 GTS is an absolutely cracking 911, hold on to it for a long time! Agreed re: GT3 Touring, the fact Porsche is building these cars full stop shows it listens to its customers. Full respect from me.

Neither. The last real Porsche 911 was built in 2011, aka the 997.2 GT3 4.0. 991's are bloated, numb, and disconnected.
@9WERKSTV6 жыл бұрын
Fascinating opinion! Agreed the 997.2 is something of a sweet spot in the 911's lineage but then others will say it stopped at the air-cooled cars, others will say it stopped at the long bonnets… however I disagree to the idea that a car like the R is numb and disconnected. Cheers for sharing your thoughts!
