Look, everyone is entitled to their opinion but I actually thought Black Panther was absolutely incredible. It gave me everything I wanted in a Marvel film. Everyone was praising BP when it came out and people couldn’t shut up about it. But now everyone is hating on it out of nowhere? Look, if you don’t like it, that’s fine. But it seems to be that some people are just hating it on because of the level of popularity it has garnered. I just find it weird how anyone could bash that film. I love how a good 90% of the comment section is so fixated on Black Panther in the Best Picture category. Plus why focus on Black Panther so much when *BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY* (62 on RT) and *VICE* (66 on RT)-- to a lesser extent-- got nominated? Dark Knight wasn’t nominated because the maximum number of nominees allowed was five. In fact, BECAUSE of that very snub (and WALL-E) is the reason why the maximum number of nominees is now up to ten. So... that’s why DK wasn’t nominated. I think you are correct, however I do think that may be a good thing. I've been watching the Oscars for years and throwing Oscar parties, and it's become a joke how no one has heard of any of the movies. I think the artsy low budget movies should continue to get nominated, but part of a movie's job is to entertain, and movies like bohemian rhapsody and black panther definitely did that, so I say welcome to the Oscar Party, it makes the race more interesting imo.

Black Panther is a movie about two furries in a spandex, wrestling to decide who is going to be the king of the world's most technologically advanced country. This country is so advanced that they have technomagic but, unfortunately, not advanced enough to have a political system so, they decide their leaders by measuring cocks. Thankfully, for the past few millenia, every king of wakanda was subtle enough not to use any of his power to dominate the world, like every other human would. They are very good people in wakanda, I mean, yes ok they could help at least all of Africa and potentially the whole world but they rather stay hidden inside an invisible bubble but, it's because of reasons. Let's also not overlook the very important political aspect of the movie. One furry is compassionate, like Martin Luther King. The other furry is angry, like Malcolm X. See, it's a really original plot. The first furry wants wakanda to be friends with everyone but the angry furry wants to sell their super technology to everyone to start WW3, oh no! I mean yeah, he already has all that technology and he can use it to dominate the world since the other countries are ages behind but, wakanda people are good, even when they are angry, the bad guy wants everyone to have a chance so he is giving away the weapons. In the end the good furry punches the shit out of the angry one and we learn that being compassionate is better than being angry. I don't see how it's not Oscars material.

Just for all of the people complaining about how the Dark Knight was not done justice while Black Panther has just been nominated for seven awards-- in 2009 The Dark Knight was correctly nominated for EIGHT Oscars and won two of them (and let me remind you that Black Panther has not actually won anything yet either). It is true that The Dark Knight was not nominated for Best Picture while Black Panther was, but the world of super hero movies was quite different back in 2009. By now the Academy has warmed up to super heroes and has surprisingly nominated Black Panther first. Congratulations to the entire team behind Black Panther; it was an incredible film (however, in the realm of super hero movies and movies in general, I do agree that The Dark Knight is the superior film).

Back in 2009 (and for many years before that), only 5 films were nominated for Best Picture each year. The omission of The Dark Knight that year was the main reason the number of Best Picture nominees was increased, first to 10 and then to a variable system that so far has always produced either 8 or 9 nominees (though it can be anywhere from 5 to 10).

@@jonathanhenly99 for the whole of 2018, Black Panther was always praised for being directed by a black guy and having an "all-black cast" (which is definitely not true since Martin Freeman and Andy Serkis were there too, and they are certainly not white..) It was an average movie at best, even by Marvel standards! Even it was called White Panther, Yellow Panther, Pink Panther or whatever, I wouldn't be impressed anyway if they changed the cast's skin tone but retained the same storyline. The movie deserves to be nominated for it's soundtrack though, no complains there, but for the best movie of 2018? I don't think so..

Black Panther is a cultural phenomenon and pop icon. One of the highest grossing movies. Maybe the Oscars is now judging based on what real people want to watch other than some boring movies about boring people. I love how a good 90% of the comment section is so fixated on Black Panther in the Best Picture category. Plus why focus on Black Panther so much when *BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY* (62 on RT) and *VICE* (66 on RT)-- to a lesser extent-- got nominated?
