I have learned something after trying to make 10000001 petals: if I let the iso alc. set there a second, then tilt it in the direction I THINK it's going to go, which it sometimes goes there and sometimes a little left or right, then blow the leaf out when it's tilted, I can do MUCH better. Just my little trial and error moment....
@VivoVintageDesigns

I've done that on occasion too. You have to try different things to find what works beat for you...and that's how we learn all kinds of stuff. Good for you!

@@VivoVintageDesigns What I still have trouble with, especially on the 8x11 size paper, but on smaller too, is that it ends up fringy and fingers on the end instead of being able to close it into a V. I just feel like that’s nearly impossible given the mutable condition of ink

I followed exactly and it didn’t work. What do you do as prep, either to the inks, or to the photo paper beforehand? My inks just make dots on the paper with no flow. I use the glossy side of the Kirkland photo paper. Do you dilute the inks before using. Do you prep the paper?
@VivoVintageDesigns
@VivoVintageDesigns Жыл бұрын
You should be using the matte side of the photo paper, not the glossy side. Also be sure to use 91 - 99% isopropyl alcohol. Give that try and let me know how it goes.

Jeannette you made this look so easy! I just recently started trying a little water color painting, acrylic painting, and sketching (and I'm 60). Hi Lisa. You can use canvas as long as you seal it first. I like Kilz2, which is a water-based primer. You can use any hair dryer as long as it has a low setting, but I find most are too strong. You will have to use it at a good distance to simply dry the ink without blowing it around.

Thank you. Yes it's a paper towel and the ink will go through it, but is really there just to absorb the excess ink. What you don't see is that I have contact paper adhered to the desk I'm working on so that the ink will not ruin the surface. I can easily wipe the ink off of the low tack contact paper. I learned that little trick the hard way

Try using less ink and alcohol. I find that the inks flow more so than on photo paper and being that the surface is so much smaller, using less product may help you.

I’ve just read that you don’t use the shiny side of the photo paper! Is this right? It seems odd. I thought the shiny side would help the ink spread nicely. I’m confused. I haven’t started using inks yet, that’s why this video is so helpful. Would appreciate your advice please. Many thanks x

@marianreader817 the glossy side of photo paper is designed to absorb ink when a photo is printed on it. Therefore, if you use ai on the glossy side, the ink is absorbed and does not flow freely...it doesn't move. The matte side of photo paper is designed to not allow the ink printed on the front to bleed through. Therefore, the alcohol inks flow freely on the matte side. Hope this helps you understand.

Hi, Jeanette, this is Dolores A-Gain, I purchased a Epoxy Resin dye kit of assorted colors from Amazon featured as Alcohol Ink. Having a hard time blowing into shapes I want and so googled to see if there is a difference between that an regular alcohol in. I've used on glass and bathroom tile having a high gloss finish, used a ranger blower, a straw, air can and hair blower on low. The epoxy resin separates and runs as soon as it hits the surface. Can you recommend a medium I can use because I really don't want to discard this package.

I've never used resin dye. I use Ranger and Pinata alcohol ink and love them both. I suppose you can use what you have with resin and make coasters or trays, (I've done both) but you'd have to purchase more supplied, in which case, you'd be better off just buying the brands of alcohol ink I just mentioned. Btw...when I made coasters with resin, I used the alcohol inks I have to add color to the resin.

@bennydsa2292 you should seal alcohol ink painting with kamar varnish and then kamar uv protection so they are protected and fade less.

Can this be done with watercolor? Ty!
@VivoVintageDesigns
@VivoVintageDesigns 2 жыл бұрын
I've not tried, but watercolor and alcohol inks work so differently. Maybe if you put down a watery puddle of watercolor, you can use the airbrush to blow it out. Now, once I'm better, I'm going to have to give it a try!

@@VivoVintageDesigns I am loving the pen technique! I have another question for you (since I am quite new to this). If I do these on Yupo paper, do they need to be sealed if they are being framed?
@VivoVintageDesigns
@VivoVintageDesigns Жыл бұрын
@@sandyandrews286 alcohol ink on any surface must be sealed with varnish and uv protection. It will fade rather quickly otherwise and can scratch off of the surface as well. Even if frames, you still need to seal is at described above.
