I can relate. Same thing happened between my son and I until I broke the ice recently. One of us had to do it. Who better than the father? The father is supposed to lead by example based on his maturity, experience, and wisdom. For those of you going through similar circumstances, don't wait. Don't wait until it's too late to reconcile and express your love for each other. As they say "Life is short".

Wise words, my wife and her mother are going through a riff over something silly 2 years ago. We saw her for the first time at their uncle’s funeral, my wife tried to break but my mother in-law wasn’t having it smh. My wife has tried to extend the olive branch, however, it takes two smh.
@ppuh6tfrz6464 жыл бұрын
I'm sure there was more to the rift than the stepmother suggesting the wedding be delayed but the fact that Norton Jr is still married to the same woman nearly 30 years later says it all. There's no reunion shown in this clip but I'm glad they sorted it out.

Stuff can happen between a father and a son making his place in the world. It's usually over money, women or difference in personality or opinion. Either way I am good that they still had love in their hearts to reconcile sooner than later because that is time they will never get back.

Kenny has the right to like who he wants and for whatever reason he has. Being in the public eye doesn't mean the public gets a veto on a man's real life or has the right to judge him as good or bad based on assumptions about things we don't know. I believe Kenny is a good person who is making choices based on his experiences and what he has learned, and that is his right.

They ended up rehashing their relationship it was very small friction. Even during Ken Norton's Dallas cowboy days and 49ers days he was still would do the tribute to his dad when he scored a defensive touchdown punching the goal Post.

Didn't know this....why was senior racist...the older generation of parents were like that...my mom was like that when i married out my race
@bnwo4 жыл бұрын
It's because Senior experienced racism and his experience is that while people are racist. That's not his Juniors experience, so they're just not going to see eye to eye. Remember boxing is a sport where until recently it's been divided based on race. Plus, based on how he raised him alone, he feels like he's owed his sons obedience and that's just not going to happen when his son is no longer a little boy. A lot of parents have a tough time with that reality. Sad thing it's Junior and his wife are still married living good. I also think the step mom played a role because step moms are busy bodies by nature since they're looking for way to involve themselves.
@ppuh6tfrz6464 жыл бұрын
@@bnwo 'Boxing is a sport where until recently it's been divided based on race.' Could you explain that because I'm not sure where you're coming from there? There were nine different world heavyweight champions over the course of Norton's career and they had one thing in common - they were all black. And as for your step mom comment... That's just bullshit.

Why you say that?

@@jayredstone107 Because many black men of his era were. And Norton Jr married a white woman. I'm not sure if the rift between him and his son was due to that or something else.
@cnwil45942 жыл бұрын
@@SugarRayCharles. WTH, of course not, none of the blacks were racist during thar era, for that matter, any era given the dynamics of racism (blacks didn't create racism). I believe Ken was simply hurt for not being invited to the wedding, and he believing his son should wait. Ken was a protective father, and that racism notion is irrelevant.
@SugarRayCharles.2 жыл бұрын
@@cnwil4594 Maybe the word "prejudice" would suffice. Let's not act like some blacks of Ken's era (as well as before and also today) were/are fond of interracial marriages. Smh.
@cnwil45942 жыл бұрын
@@SugarRayCharles. That could be possible, but I don't believe it was in Ken's case. It wasn't unusual that most blacks felt unaccepting of interracial relationships given how blacks were subjected to blatant, evil racism.
