I remember seeing Terry jump over the boards and run up a dozen rows to beat the crap out of a fan. A few other players were right behind him!...I think it was in NY.

I've been a Bruins fan my whole life and I hated O'Reilly. We had goons like O'Reilly, Wensink and Jonathan. Slow, lousy skaters who could only hit and fight. Montreal hadskaters, play makers and scorers that's why in the late 70's we couldn't beat them. If O'Reilly couldn't fight and didn't have that last name in Boston he would have been a career AHL player.
@jason-hy8ci
@jason-hy8ci 3 ай бұрын
@karlschneider9479 If it wasn't for some dynasty teams in Montreal, the Bruins would have had FOUR more Cups, and the only team that could handle the Flyers Goons in 1973/74 Cup were the Bruins but )ost in 6 gms. That's FIVE in the 70's. They lost twice to NYI in the early 80's. O'Reilly led the Bruins in 1977/78 with 90 pts. And.... OMG, PIMS!!!! BTW, the only 2 other Bruins have done that one was Bobby Orr. "Goon"?.... You're a fool. You don't know what you're talking about. In fact, you sound so foolish I think you're a troll.
@jason-hy8ci
@jason-hy8ci 3 ай бұрын
@@karlschneider9479 SO, the Bruins weren't good enough to win in 1978/79 against Montreal???? Montreal guys even admit they should have probably lost. O'Reilly couldn't fight???? You must be another fight aficionado who because O'Reilly had terrible balance and was all over the place thought he couldn't fight. Ya' know when you hate on someone you're going find yourself knocking that person all the time. I guess that's a short coming. If you're a Bruins fan, you wasted Two and half hours every few nights in the winter all of those years watching them because you do not know what you are talking about.

In the 70's between periods on Hockey in Canada they had a skills competition every year. One year,(1977-78?) Lafleur came in first. Guess who the runner up was????...... Terry O'Reilly. He's a goon who can't fight though.....

I grew up as a Montreal Canadiens fan as a kid, because my dad loved watching them. So I loved watching Chris Nilan play. I grew up in Toronto, but I became a big fan of Terry ever since the first time I saw him. I was 11 years old when I went to my first ever Toronto Maple Leaf practice back in 1972, and they were playing the Bruins that night. We saw the Bruins practice first and all of us kids were screaming at the played for autographs. Of course Bobby Orr was getting all of the attention and I saw this young rookie standing by the boards, so I smiled at him and waved and he looked at me and picked up a puck and threw it over the boards to me. I was so excited and I asked him what his name was and he said “Terry O’Reilly”. I then started watching him over the years and I loved how he stood up to the Flyers back then, especially Dave Shultz, who I hated the most because of his bully act. Terry turned out to be a great guy to follow because not only was he tough, but he was also the hardest working guy in the ice. Thanks for the pick Terry…I wish I still had it! I’m glad I got to see this interview….thanks Chris!

Terrific stuff, thanks Chris. It's funny, the story about Esposito telling young O'Reilly to slow down in practice vs. Nilan hammering Richer for dogging it. Early ''70s Boston could have been a dynasty if they'd stayed hungry like the Habs did, they had all the talent in the world.

Chris, Tim love the the podcasts they are excellent. I could watch them all day long as I relate to all of it having grown up in Montreal and being in age group that gets the guests that are part of the podcasts. It was a great era for sports in Montreal.. I wish that there was the ability to make these "call in " types of shows. On another note, Chris, my dad used to coach baseball here in LaSalle, Quebec. He did not coach me but coached my younger brother and they had regular exchanges with the kids from the Parkway association in West Roxbury. Peter Shea was the guy from West Roxbury that was the contact and the LaSalle kids would go there for a weekend and the West Roxbury kids would come to Lasalle for a weekend in the summer. This was back in the early 80's. Just wanted to share that. Chris do you remember Peter Shea?

Thanks for the interview Chris. I had a 81-82 year book when I was a kid. I had O’rielly’s autograph and a bunch of others as well. That was along time ago and it got lost in the shuffle of life. I just bought another 81-82 year book on e-bay. I live in Florida now, but I would love to get O’rielly’a autograph again. I happened to be walking the hall in the garden and he got 5 for fighting or something like that and went to the dressing room because it was close to the end of the second period. I was like a 11 at the time. I was like O’rielly can I have your autograph? Dude it was like striking gold. Anyone have any idea’s of how I can get his autograph again? I’d mail it to him with some money for return postage or something. Dude I’d give him a little bonus just to sign the picture for me again. 😂 true story I played right wing when I was kid and always looked up to Terry.
