Very good video, gave me the incentive to change my own oil. I'll add a couple tips from my experience. 1. When my neighbor saw the 3-foot circle of splashed oil mine splashed like yours - 0W20 is almost like water), he suggested to use a tall bucket, tip it to the side, and then stick it right under once the bolt is free. Years ago I bought a couple of those gizmos that replace the bolt, have a cap that screws on, and at oil change time you take the cap off and then screw on a gizmo with a bump in the middle that, after it's threaded half way on, pushes in a spring-loaded stopper inside the gizmo attached in place of the bolt that lets the oil flow down a hose. Long explanation, but I might give that a try next time. 2. Eighteen foot pounds on the oil filter housing ) is basically hand tight. I didn't hear the click on my torque wrench and kept going and had a horrible time trying to get that housing back off to reset it to eighteen pounds. I broke the filter wrench at the socket it was on their so hard. There are movies on youtube by mechanics showing how to get Toyota oil filter housings off, so apparently it is not uncommon. So beware: don't over tighten the oil filter housing more than just more than hand tight or your fairly quick oil change turns into a whole afternoon project. 3. The skid plate bolts in the front are tricky on a 2020 Tacoma as they are up under the plastic lower bumper. I would suggest using a long extension and pulling the plastic bumper down to get access. Otherwise it is a job to get those front bolts in to replace the skid plate. I've subscribed now and look forward to more of your videos.

You must have pre loosened that oil filter cassette before you made this video, that came off way TOO easy. It took two people to get mine off. We had an 18" breaker bar plus a 24" cheater, with one person hitting the cassette removal tool, fairley hard with a large hammer . . . . . . . .we also had a bottle jack pushing up on the cassette removal tool so it could not slip off. With all that, . . . . . . . it was all I could do to break it loose, and I bench 345 pounds. I think you do your viewers a great disservice by making it look so easy. I have always changed oil in every car, truck and Harley I have owned, and I have never seen one this difficult. I thought that I was going to find it cross threaded, but it was not. This cassette oil filter was a really bad idea THX Toyota!

@@92813justin I have always noticed the metal dust on the end of the dipstick of my 2019 Tacoma. I was concerned metal was coming from the engine so I took it to the dealer but they had no answers. Good job. Using torque wrench and giving the torque specs is a plus. A person would have to be a bit anal to find fault with anything you did. However, if you read the instructions on the box that your oil filter came in, they say not to use a tool to remove the o-rings. The concern is after multiple oil changes the groove where the o-ring goes could become damaged. Probably won't be a problem but worth mentioning that care should be taken. The only other thing that was inaccurate was the mention you made of there being one quart difference between the two marks on the dip-stick. Actually, there is at least 1.6 quarts difference and possibly 1.8 quarts. You should find that information in your owner's manual. And we all know you didn't mean "from empty to full". Those marks represent the minimum safe amount of oil and the maximum safe amount.
@92813justin4 жыл бұрын
JackTannehillPromoter, thanks Jack for all of the positive feedback. I worked at an oil change shop for a year and they told us it was about a quart or so across all vehicles. That seems like a very small chance but I do not want to take any chances.

You can but I would keep an eye on it. Every time I’ve bought a filter it comes with a housing gasket and one for the drain plug.

For those of us that have an air damn. Do you need to remove it?

You do not, It will be right there when you are trying to loosen the front bolts on the skid plate but you can do it

For anyone doing this some of y’all might have an extra skid plate over the oil pan. It threw me off at first and I think I almost drained the transmission fluid lol

Also clean the inside filter area if you see there is a lot of metal in side . With carburetor cleaner

Does the filter come with seals? Was the filter from the dealer?
@92813justin4 жыл бұрын
Filter seals comes with the filter. Most dealers make you also pay for the drain plug seal separately.
