I agree. I passed my book on to my granddaughter who has since shared it. Then we told other friends about it. I'm ready to give Spark Joy to a friend now. That's my small effort to help organize the world!

Really interesting, funny and daring questions, learned different things of how Marie Kondo looks into these things. Good job, Wendy.

KonMari bonus tip: remove labels on things like shampoo, conditioners, laundry soap(not medicines which you may need the info for) to reduce visual "chatter" in your environment.

I read that years ago. when we had an espresso shop, we'd put all the java jackets on inside out so the ads wouldn't show and the customer might have a more peaceful experience.

I am very lucky on the 'dialogue with objects' part. Always talk to my things, not like a lunatic, but having an internal dialogue with many of my objects. This ,ade very easy for me to accept the least undersood, or palatable, of her philosophy. Maintaining a contact with our things helps a lot to understand ourselves and those things too!

🌻 I am attempting to do what has been put off for far too long. Taking downsizing to the next and much needed level. There are storage boxes beneath our basement stairs which have not been opened for over fifteen years. I think that I even have a box filled with a collection of power adaptors for devices which might be on display in the collections of the Department of Anthropology of the Smithsonian National Museum. As for applying Marie Kondo's technique of holding something and to notice if it sparks joy, I think that it will be an exceptionally difficult task. Even while touching the sides of these dust covered storage boxes, boxes which contain who knows what, I feel so many sparks of joy. This is going to be a tough chore. Very tough indeed. 🤭

Taraaaaaá!!! Beautiful!.There are people very messy. How a man or woman can have their room like a garage sale or rather a corral for pigs?. I recommend them that if have a hard time tidying the room, at least do not throw things to the floor and also tidy it once a week; Maybe over time they can create a good cleaning habit since they will feel a better energy around them because everything will be clear. Thank you Marie Kondo for creating a practical method of organization and sharing it with us. 👍💞

I love MK- have enjoyed her talks, shows and books. But I have to say, when you look at the before and after of that bedroom, the stuff wasn't just put away. A large percentage must be given away or thrown out. You see that in her shows. Bags and Bags of things leaving the home. That's the only way you can achieve that. Her method isn't about just moving the mess somewhere else. That's the core of her method really. The Life-changing Magic of Tidying Up is marketing genius. I'm sure it would outsell "You've GOT to Throw Your Shit Out!"

a hoarding house is more than messy. There will be garbage. And thinking problems with acquisition, organization, and discarding. For example, categorizing is hard because a hoarder may view each thing as unique, a group of one. Where a person may be able to separate kitchen things from other things. However, a hoarder would say all red wooden spoons, etc. Therefore, everything may spark joy, or fear of not throwing out what they might be able to use. This could even apply to trash; that is why so much trash is usually in a hoarder's house. Also, their sense of overwhelm prevents them from starting. They need a coach and someone to find what their thinking patterns are so they can challenge their unrealistic beliefs. Some of Konmari's success is her respectful attitude towards her clients. This is the attitude needed to help a true hoarder--no name calling, lazy, clutter, etc.

I am reflecting on this too as I have a friend who is a hoarder. I don't know they are human or even animal aren't they though? Even a cat can tell joy from no joy, fish joy, tinned food not so much. I was even thinking it's probably possible to get a Parrot to declutter their own cage by touching them with the item if they raise up they like it and it's a keep if they bow down then it's no joy sadness. Surely that is the essence of the method and imagining the life they want. Or are you saying they can't even imagine a future life for themselves hmmm. They may need more categories than average with so much miscellaneous.

@@daniellower72 hoarding is more than just a behavior, it's mental problem. It's not like they cant identify what sparks joy or not. In some situation they attached their feelings with the stuffs they possess. For example: A watch of husband has been passed away. When facing the question of keeping it or not they re facing their past and questioning whether they should let it go and most of the time they cant. If u look at them in this aspects they will just be like any other normal human in this world, not just animals :)

Does this translator capture and include her spirituality, her energy, soul?It doesn't sound like it. You who say she "is a champ", do you know JApanese, and can you really tell, please?

Does she have anything for traumatized, burnt out HSP's/ Aspergers and siease-struggling ones who have to prioritize Survival and Search for professional assistence and treatment? I get the impression , she is only for pretty normal ppl with rather small issues really. Am I wrong? Is there any video where she is done justice in the simultaneous translation? I want the real stuff. Thank you.

For real problems, this won't work that well, - in real mess, one won't see and find all the items of that category. What does she say about real issues? It is good to have many teacups in burn-out and chronic crisis, since one gets clumsy from the sleep deprivation and sterss, and needs more cups to replace...
