They got their leaf not long after I got mine, many of you keep asking how they are getting along with their Nissan Leaf, so here is a quick update at 93,000 miles! Correct from what I said in video: 1 bar down out of 12, but that seems to have made only 5-10 miles difference in real world.
Please like and subscribe and also follow on Instagram if you want to see pics and little vids etc.

You need to make a video covering the following: 1. The moment the clock changes to 200k miles 2. Explanation of the current range 3. Explanation of theoretical range in hot and cold condition 4. Information from Leaf Spy 200,000 miles would be a fantastic video for Nissan Leaf owners

Just done 40,000 miles in my 2014 Acenta. Just a couple of things to point out to other owners (who may already know). Firstly there's a Lithium ion battery earth recall on the early shape and secondly water leaks through the gap in the drivers side windscreen wiper and rusts the shock absorber strut bolt and thread. I've cleaned mine up and protected it with silicone grease (which doesn't damage the rubber) and capped it with a cheap sink plunger which has worked fine. Done both sides but passenger side is nowhere near as bad.

Great video Ian. I'm amazed that the battery has no bar loss. My old Leaf lost one bar at 70k after 7 years from new. The 12v battery on my Leaf ceased working at 5 years - apparently it is a more common issue on the first gen Leaf than any other car; generally the 12v battery lasts 5 years according to my local dealer. When I sold my Leaf in March 2020 I was getting 55 miles range in the colder winter months here in the north Scotland climate. Build quality was first class from Nissan.

@@IanSampsonRLO Now we know what we know about the older LEAF's here's my theory. Heat is one factor, Tennessee is much warmer than England in the summer months. Driving a lot on the motorway (interstate) is another. My guess is your mum and dad don't do that much motorway driving. I believe the LEAF was optimized for moderate speeds and works very well indeed in that scenario. 80-85 mph on the motorway everyday plus a rapid charge to get home not so much.

@@poobank Right, the ‘13 and newer cars did much better. However, Atlanta can also be a crapshoot... I primarily used the car as a commuter, so heat in the morning wasn’t a big factor... would charge at work during the day in the garage at work and drive home after it started to cool for the day. I think, though people consider ATL as a hot climate, the car could probably handle it OK... I don’t think we are much worse off than even 6-700 miles farther north.

In defence of older drivers. The visibility, in the LEAF, when reversing is horrendous. Ours has a reversing camera which is not much use & no sensors. My other main vehicles have 2 wheels & no reverse so maybe my reversing skills aren't what they used to be. Although I seem to be able to reverse the caravan OK.😎 Our LEAF is a fantastic car, in very good condition apart from the battery. We are currently putting in a warranty claim for a new battery. The car was in storage for 2-3 years before we bought it, add in the 30+ degree days, the nights are 20+ for a lot of the year. The result is we seem to drop a bar every summer. Given we paid the same for the LEAF as we would have paid for an ICE & electricity costs us 4c/km I have no complaints. If Nissan upholds our warranty claim we will get 10-15 years use from the car with very low maintenance costs. I can't complain about that. If it only had 40km of range that would cover 80% of our needs. We are similar to your parents in that we have a petrol SUV to fill the gaps & pull the caravan, and that's about all the SUV does. Plus I have a motorbike & an electric pushbike. All the best to you & your family & your long-suffering parents😀. Enjoying the Honda E videos.

My 2015 24KWh leaf completed 62,000 when it lost its first bar. No regrets getting it. The government should insist that all cars have a 2nd life battery option offered at a reasonable price by manufacturers that is double capacity of original. A battery tech is moving forward so quick over next 10 years, it's only fair early generation EV's don't get scrapped before they have truly died.

@@IanSampsonRLO I have been keeping an eye on them as well but agree still a bit pricey. Also keeping eye out for one more local to me in UK. But TBH, as it's only lost the 1st bar it's still in good health, so probably better to buy car with bigger battery. And then it starts to come back to the value of an older degraded EV that no-one wants and so ends up getting scrapped due to the performance of its battery. It would be great if someone started applying Solid state cells to a pack, even if it is of a smaller physical volume but better than original capacity.

However my argument would be that I've lost approx 30% range yet only 2 of 12 bars have gone, therefore they're not accurately depicting capacity. Does look like 11 bars not the 12, how many more miles would you expect to get in winter, another 5-10 maybe?

60-70 miles range in winter, hmmmm... My wife doesn't get that from our 30 kWh Leaf with 1 bar lost (78k miles). Range test video in realistic conditions, mix of motorway, single, dual carriage, town driving, heating... maybe?

I wont be going back in their car probably until it hits 100k. (Its not mine after all, was able to pinch it whilst it was free for 15mins)
