Is that what the marketeers term "Stuffed for life". (Unlike modern gearboxes, of course) Seven years and fubarred. I can see the eco arguments. You must have money to burn buster. Don't worry, you're keeping African child slave workers in jobs. My Skoda Fabia ICE still going at 21 years old and in reasonable nick. I don't get it,. How can a 7 seater MPV/SUV be expected to be powered by a 24 Kwh battery and to grow old gracefully ? . If such a vehicle were ICE powered you'd have a 2.5 litre normally aspirated or a 1.8 turbo in it. Evs are like desktop computing, mickey mouse and ill thought out.

For some new micro cars quadrocycles motorbikes, a three pin adaptor is needed and is for sale, but apparently you need to watch the amperage, don't know what say pod point 7kwh at Tesco would be.
@peted7295
@peted7295 9 күн бұрын
My employer decided install proper chargers instead of just letting me use the 3 pin socket "for free". fair enough. only to find out they've installed two Wallboxes that are tethered with type 2 plugs and Wallbox no longer offer type 1 tethers. So, long story short they just dumped it on me to buy an adaptor on behalf of my employer, which on the face of it is fine but they're not compliant with the code of practise. so now it's a case of who's liable if the use of said adaptor causes damage or a failure of the battery or onboard electronics. For now at least I'm not charging the car at work and having to use petrol for half of my commute.

I will update if I have any issues..seems to work just fine. If so this might give some confidence to using one? I have heard from someone who had theirs fail apparently- but the failure was the adapter nothing more (i.e charger/car unaffected).

Can you remove the cable or the adapter whilst it’s charging? That isn’t something that is normally possible due to the charger lock when charging is happening
@IanSampsonRLO
@IanSampsonRLO 9 күн бұрын
Yes, you can pull the type 2 from the type 1 mid charge.
@SirHackaL0t.
@SirHackaL0t. 9 күн бұрын
@@IanSampsonRLO I thought the idea of the type 2 connector was that you shouldn’t be able to disconnect until the charger and car had stopped the voltage so people don’t get electrocuted. This seems to bypass that safety feature.

On disconnect there is no power being output from the cable, i.e stops before being fully disconnected.

@IanSampsonRLO I had two different makes, both from amazon, but i couldn't tell you without looking it up. The charger was a type 1 and the adaptor took it to type 2 for our MG5. I guess used a couple of times a week and I think they lasted about 6 months ish.

So amongst all this complication you have a couple more reference points on energy usage. The Electricity supplier app would show daily consumption from the 'grid', which should of course be consistently down now you have solar. Also, you have an In Home Display that shows live usage of both gas and electricity. Switch on a kettle and an oven and see the needle hit red, unless the battery offsets some of the demand. I'd say I hope that helps realising it is more complication, but at least you have a couple of more lots of measurement data.

It seems that the new Renault 5 will be everything the Honda E should have been when it was released, range wise at least. (I'm thinking of getting an used Honda E with 16,000 kms for 20k Eur... not sure yet but sounds about right the price for that range)

From all you in chat & Ian, Curious to know what you're charging the cycles are for the daily grind i own a evn200 40kwh & zoe 24kwh, at the moment i set the charge to 75%, this gives me enough for 100miles in the van and 60-70ish in the car, thou i have quoted these miles In reality. the car does 10 miles a day and the van does 40 miles a day, The van displays full bars on the health thing. As I haven't gotten OBD reader, I will have to presume this is accurate.

FYI your charge at 10p/kWh doesn't work out as your import rate as you're not adding in the losses from the battery & inverter which workout at 12% give or take. So charge at 10p/kWh costs 11.2p/kWh discharging. Considering tracker at approx 18p/kWh you're only saving 7p/kWh but you've spent over £20k on batteries. For most consumers this doesn't make sense, but if you're a higher user it may, but Octopus Tracker does put a big dent in break even date. That said, I do love your set up, so jealous
