9394 Deck Tech: Twiddlevault (my 2020 Winter Derby deck)

This is the deck I was going to play in the 2021 Winter Derby (which is still going on at the time I posted this video.) I had to drop due to no time from helping family move and starting the Unhinged Magi channel. So here it is!

It's INDEED a fierce deck. Turn 3 kills are pretty common. I had to drop that tournament though. Family time and new channel killed my free time.

Engineers do think alike. This is the archetype of THE DECK list. Blue and the P9, basically that cycles everything out. Any 2 or 3 card combo can be inserted on this base list. Going classic Twiddlevault is great. My take here will be a PowerArtifact+Vault+Geyser+Vise or a B/U Lobotomy if you add on in Up to the Ice Age/Alliances Block

I'm playing a very similar deck. I leaned way more heavily into the stasis portion of the deck though utilizing black vise as my kill condition. I side black vice out for Angels game 2 or 3. I'll definitely try out parts of your build once the derby is over.

I've been playing twiddlevault with stasis for over a year. such a great deck. mine is a little different but I'd say 90 to what mine looks like. Dave Bard once told me I get what I deserve when I lost round one at the tundra wolves challenge 3 last year playing this deck lol. Overall there is so much happening and i've had many, many hours talking with people about this specific deck. Hope you enjoy playing it as much as I have.

Yeah I really do enjoy playing it. I sometimes feel bad for how much the other guy sits there doing nothing. Which is also part of the reason I prefer the fireball finish. It ends much faster.

I know you don't run white, but have you ever tried Land Tax? Nice synergy with Stasis as well, and also makes the deck run more smooth. Allthough that might require Fellwar Stone... So many options...

Old school usually allows proxies. You can do this to even just play test and have fun.

I would be curious how you would side board. For example how would you side board against “the deck”, Atog, Ernhamgeddon or a weenie deck. To me it’s one of the hardest things because something has to come out. What comes out? Maybe for your next deck tech video.

Can’t wait to build this deck, Edwin how viable do you think a transformational sideboard plan would be utilizing 4 serendib efreet, 4 erham djinn, and something spicy like 4 Orgg (synergy with twiddle)?

Hi Matt! The transformational sideboard was really more for fun/spice then anything else. I placed in the top 16 in the last Winter Derby out of nearly 300 people using this deck using the transformational Sideboard, and it really didn't help me at all. I didn't expect to place so well or I would have used the real sideboard. The list was a bit different, I posted it on Instagram. The REAL sideboard has not been posted anywhere publicly... but it's... - 4x Gloom - 4x REB - 3x BEB - 2x Serra Angel - 2x Tormod's Crypt

The deck looks very interesting. I'm curious about the offensive cards fireball and mirror universe. To me the most common scenario for winning looks like this: play mirror universe when your own health is low, then finish with the fireball, right? It looks difficult to pull off when you only have a single fireball and a single mirror universe in the deck? I was thinking you would need maybe another fireball? Or is that not a problem (I've only seen your tech video, I haven't tried out the deck myself yet). And great video with interesting deck :-)

When this deck gets going you can literally set up a deck and board state that would allow you to take nearly infinite turns. And that can happen as early as turn 3. What's a way more typical win is give up 8-16 life drawing cards off Sylvan, mirror, fireball. But if the deck's infinite turns engine gets started... you nearly win any damned way you want lol

@@EdwintheMagicEngineer Yeah, I watched a few videos of people playing Twiddlevault decks now and I see what you mean. Once that infinite turn engine kicks into gear it's pretty much game over :-) Have you considered a Copy Artifact? I think the versatility could be valuable, but it might be difficult choosing which card to replace though...

I have an idea I'm working on for an old school deck. I'm sure it's been done possibly but here it goes. Its mono red black vise. I'm thinking land and artifact destruction along with howling mine to keep their hands full. Burn spells to hit them further along with efficient creatures if the vises do not work out and an atog or 2 to sac all the artifacts to if they end up being useless. Could you help? Not wanting it to be super budget but unfortunately power 9 isn't an option for me. Thanks for any help!!!

Add in Ankh of Mishra, EarthQuake, Atog, Dragon Engine, a few Maze of Ith, and Fissure. Take out the Howling mines because they help your opponent recover more then they kill him with vises. You don't have enough land destruction to keep up with their mana recovery with Howling Mines.

That's happened for sure. If it's late enough in the game you can definitely work around it. If it's game 2 and you are packing blue and only a few artifacts I'm going to assume you will be on Flux and board in the REBs

There is like 7 different rule sets for Old School. Atlantic and Swedish allow 4x Time Vaults. I have an entire video about when time vault got unrestricted
