Jee, the luxury of learning this bass part from the originator himself!! And to find out there are daily videos of him blabbermouthing and playing bass... And the little irony of him saying how he doesn't want to be an old fart, wearing that iconic beard. To understate: it all makes me smile. Thanks Leland! Pure bliss you gave us!

I have a pal of 47 years who I met in college; and he has a wonderful voice, great harmonies, and we'd put on Beach Boys, JT, on and on, I'd do a lead vocal, sometimes I taught myself a harmony......but this is a guy I'd drive 50 miles to his tiny ap't and we'd spend 3-4 hours listening to music, pulling up concerts on youtube, and singing....I sent him the link to Doctor My Eyes and I'm sure he'll hit the subscribed button......Thanks Lee, they don't have a cure for Covid, they really aren't treating it; right now, music is the medicine for the body and for our minds...........

Thankyou Leland I totally enjoy your clips I've seen you play with musicians in concert. Sir may I say I only dream of being at your calibre in music. I've played drums for well over 40 years My parents were involved in music and I can remember when groups I worked with folded my mother always convinced me not to give up and I am forever thankful to her for that because If she didn't convince me not to throw the towel in I wouldn't be where I am today. But sadly like you all my musician brothers have fallen off their perch. I remember I only discovered one of my very close friends had passed away, he played in my very first group I played in , it must have been 1967 I must have been 15 years old. He went to Vietnam and returned a different person. I only found out he passed away accidentally on the internet ,his passing floored me. Thankyou Leland watching your clips is like talking to my musician friends I used to now.

LOVE Bobby Womack (RIP). And clearly James loves soul music, whether covering Womack, or Marvin Gaye/Junior Walker, or Otis Blackwell, or Sam Cooke. "Woman's Gotta Have It" and "I Can Understand It" are a pair of tunes I would take with me in the lifeboat to the desert island. The strongest feature of the tune is the manner in which the pace of the song and bass line feels like a person is walking and thinking to themselves. I once heard an interview with Paul Simon, in which he was asked what came first when writing: music or lyrics. He replied that rhythm came first, and the lyrics followed. This song also seems to start with rhythm and pace, and the pensive quality of the lyrics, and instrumentation follows from that.

Just imagine my emotion when after years of listening that record while looking at the album art with that great picture with a lot of "Mr" and "Ms" and suddenly that bearded man that´s lying at the bottom of the picture gets up and speaks to you about how wonderful it was to be on that record and plays in front of you. I miss that ceremony too, listening and reading the album but let me tell you, nowadays I do almost the same with my music files on the computer, while I listen I search through sites for info and It´s a journey, specially when you meet those music fan guys sharing a lot of encyclopedic knowledge on their blog pages. And soon you end up finding that really it´s really true that "Dios los cría y ellos se juntan" as we say here (same concept as birds of a feather flock together) Thank you Leland for your daily gifts and for letting us know a bit of your human nature from where all that music sensitivity emerges Greetings from Uruguay

I really feel like the era of Vinyl was an age of innocence like a teenager learning to express themselves and say what is important to them and actually have someone listen to what they had to say because it was important and meant something. Every record opened a new room full of ideas and experiences, all you had to do to return was to slide the record out, cue it up and sit in the comfy chair and you were back there in the 'room' that only that record could open. We were young and naive but it was so vibrant and hopeful, it was food for our spirits! I too miss those rooms, mp3's and digital is just not the same, like they somehow don't even exist. I was lucky enough to make a couple of CD covers and a booklet for a couple friends bands and it was a great experience to be actually creating a room and taking part in arranging of the guys furniture, as in the songs being part of themselves and how valuable a thing those songs were. You are now opening a new set of doors that are equally as precious :)

I’ve seen Mike Landau many times. Know of so many of the artists you discussed. I miss records too! Gave my amazing collection (many were my parents’ records from the early 60’s) to my adult son. Unfortunately, he didn’t value them, so there gone now. Well, to be more positive m...they are now being enjoyed by others, so we spread the joy. Love your term: PURÉE OF LIFE!!!

Many new record reissues sound WAY better than the old ones. Deep grooves on 180 gram make the sound better the more you play them. Not like the flimsy vinyl coming out as CD's took over. I was amazed when I decided to go back and build a new collection with my old man mind. Had only saved a few LP's from the day- and one was The Section's 1st Album. It says "Respectfully dedicated to rhythm sections everywhere" . That's where I started rebuilding my vinyl collection. The MoFi version of "JT" cranks Lee's bass. Sounds like his videos he makes here and I LOVE it! Very hard to find unfortunately.

I've realized lately how much I miss having it so it was a pain to bump to the next song on a tape/album. It kind of twisted your arm to listen to the whole thing (and you listened to the whole thing because you paid for it). There was nothing like sitting down to listen to a new one. I also really miss the album/cassette artwork and liner notes to read as you listen (that's how I first learned who Leland Sklar was on PC's No Jacket Required). Now, unless you know the members of a band you have no real clue who played what. Please keep up with this. I love hearing your stories and listening to your magic.

One of many things I love about your videos is you talking about the people you've worked with, Kootch, etc, people I've been reading about and seeing on album notes for decades. So, do right. I learned and loved to play many James Taylor songs. But albums were and still are so iconic in sound! You are correct...in saying checking everything about the album..including all artwork, who played certain instruments on the album. Cleaning your needle off ,so it is clean and plays a beautiful sound. Being 60 years old..I always looked at who was playing on the album. The muscians..so important on every album. I learned very quick ,who were the go to great studio muscians. Leland Sklar..has impressed me in every way. I want to say thank you to Look Leyland from the bottom of my ❤️..in all he contributed and his wisdom and knowledge. Thank you Lee❤️❤️❤️

Mr. Leland Sklar. I have to say that the channel you publish is amazing to watch! One thing is the music, but getting to hear the stories of what you've been participating on is even more interesting. I am a simple keyboard player from Norway myself and what I find amazing about music is that it is dynamic and exciting. When I listen, text doesn't mean much for me, but it's the details, the atmosphere, the mood and the interaction I listen to, and that's where you come in. You play bass with many famous ones but in a way that doesn't promote yourself. You hear the whole and then play. That's what this music is all about and you do shine when you play those old beats. I think it's great that you post these videos in a difficult time with Covid-19! You are an inspiration and keep doing what you do best! No one should say anything else! If you ever come to Norway, feel free to come by!

I was calculating how much you've saved on disposable shaving razors. Assuming that if one buys them at the dollar store for a dollar (and that you get 5 in a pack), and you use one every three days, that's two dollars per month. So, that would be 24 packages of shavers per year. 24 x 50 = $1200 for 50 years of using disposable shavers. So, you've saved enough to buy a new bass. Now you have a justification, for telling your wife, you're buying a new bass. I'm doing the same thing with underwear. So, I haven't changed them for a year and I figure that I've saved $8, so far. In 10 years or so, I'll be able to buy a used bass.

Helene Spaulding ... if you are talking about Rod Stewart ... he is English.

Hi Helene, Rod is definitely English. Very much a Londoner. His mother was English and his father was Scottish. So Rod likes to play up his Scottish heritage and he supports the Glasgow Celtic soccer/football team, etc.

Brain Stormer thank you. I just heard an interview I’d Rod done by Dan Rather a couple of years ago. And yes, he did play it up. What totally shocked me was that he called the team the Seltics.....,..not the Keltics! I didn’t think a Brit would use that pronunciation!

Thanks again, Leland. I am 60 years old and grew up listening to JT, Jackson Browne, Neil Young, CSNY, Joni Mitchell, etc. I only recently bought another turn table and now I am rebuilding an album collection . It feels so good to go to my local record store and browse different sections and appreciate the art work of recordings new and old. I am having the same fun buying records as I did in the 1970s.
