Ha ha, me too! That's how I ended up here, just reading random Seinfeld trivia I came across the connection to this. Been a Seinfeld nut for 20 years but never knew this inspired "The Understudy."

3:12 I mean, it actually broke. Look at the skate. Its not the shoe lace, its the whole top of the boot.

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, we are all experts aren't we? *sarcasm* I swear, although as much as I can't get over the hours of training for the Olympics, devote basically your entire existence on it, to not have a back up pair of laces?? Yes, she should of thought, however, I do blame the people around her. All the odds were against her. Her family, in my eyes, wanted her to succeed only to live off of her. There is such thing as tough love, and codependent, and straight out abuse and because of that alone, I don't think she will ever think she's good enough, in anything; it's terribly heartwrenching. *HOWEVER, no matter any way you look at this, what they did to Nancy was very f up.* Just wanted to clarify that. lol

It wasn’t the laces. If you look at the skate it self, the lace holes ripped. That’s such an extraordinarily rare thing to happen.

she just needs some boots that go up higher, to support her ankles, this is a very simple fix that should have been thought of during training.......you can see later in the video that they are trying to jam things in there to make it higher...
@dmcpoyle46997 жыл бұрын

Oh Tonya, what a consummate actress! It happens so she yells "is not gonna hold me" right in front of the cameras as she steps out!!!! And she blames everyone else for her downfall....?! ....and she never noticed her bootlace was too short or about to break when she initially got dressed and put on her skates, then practiced?
@dmcpoyle46997 жыл бұрын
Incredible Mann I am not too sure how I would 'act,' but, giving her age, apparently the regular stress of being in the greatest competition in the world, add her being an underdog, her batshit crazy mother, etc, I don't know how I would take that. It's so much easier to squash the couch, yell at the kids, and wait for my nail appointment though. Just Sayin.'
@AMD11146 жыл бұрын
Her lace actually broke in the warm up, they had another lace but it was two short because you if look at tonya's skate it laces all the way up to the top through eyelets rather then having hooks at the top which most skates have so her skate needed a longer lace so they had to miss some holes out the make it fit which wasn't a firm enough fit. I agree though it was an over reaction attention seeking temper tantrum on her part, She could have just asked for more time on the grounds of her personal saftey. But she was under a massive amount of pressure at the time and in practice videos she is constantly messing with her laces so not surprised it broke.
@JUNGLEJIMY12311 жыл бұрын
Go tithe Olympics n not bring any extra laces or back up equipment. Poor coaching and she also made so many wrong decisions. But she was one of the best !! Wish she had practiced more and hired some quality people like a decent choreographer !!
@BoutThatMarathonLife4 жыл бұрын
If you look at her skates when she was showing it to the judge, you can see the skate is broken, not the lace.
@IceAintNice11 жыл бұрын
Absurd. Trying to divert her guilt with these shenanigans, You go to World/Olympic competition you go prepared.

It's so funny. I remember this at the time. I fell for it. I felt so sorry for her. Now, knowing what we all know about her, I see it totally differently. She is a great actress, a complete drama queen, and she brought all the bad stuff on herself.
