Yeah. Years ago I heard a rumour that when Vauxhall launched the new Vectra (the replacement to the Cavalier) at the Birmingham NEC Motor Show, that Ford weren't happy that it was taking the limelight from their relatively new model the Ford Mondeo. So Ford managed to get hold of a new Vectra and parked it on the roundabout at the top of the M42, just as people were coming out of the NEC with it's bonnet up, hazards flashing, and a smoke machine so it looked like it was billowing smoke from the engine - essentially looking like it had broken down! Genius PR stunt!

When I lived in London I stayed overnight at a friends house in Bayswater and legally parked my car in a meter parking bay, it was after 6.30pm so no need to pay, but from 8.30am the next morning the paid parking period would start so I figured I would leave before then.The next morning I could see from the window of my friends flat that removal truck parked next to my car at around 8.10 am and I watched the removal guys just sit there, they had their eye on my car and at 8.30am on the dot I knew they were planning to lift it, I went down there at 8.25 am and the evil look of hate they gave me as I opened my car and got in was quite something, they looked extremely pissed off and gave me the real stink eye as I drove off with a smile on my face. At the time I owned a high brand car and they just hated me, the fact that I outsmarted them I think ruined their day.

I remembered reading a post where a rich guy parked on a no parking sign. Friend told him he'll get a parking fine, the rich guy said it's a parking spot, I'll just cost couple hundred dollars instead. Friend realize parking fines are for the poor, not for the rich. I guess towing the car is best way to inconvenient them and make them actually care where to park.

@OnTrackDetailing
@OnTrackDetailing Жыл бұрын
@MrGman2804 no, it's not the drivers problem. If they are not insured for the value of the vehicle then they are not authorised to lift it...that is very much the issue of the company. @MrGman2804
@MrGman2804 Жыл бұрын
@@OnTrackDetailing Well, OK, I would not profess to be sure about the legalities, but if the towing company did damage his car, and denied responsibility, from a practical point of view, I can see that would give the driver a problem, since he can't even be bothered to park properly, so he would then have to decide can he be bothered to sue the company for the cost of the damage? That is really what I meant. Basically, someone who can afford a $1m car, and can't be bothered to park it properly, I can't really see him tying himself up in suing to get some bodywork damage repaired, I suspect he would just pay for it to be repaired himself... but we will never know. Personally, even if I could afford a $1m car, I would not drive it or park it in London. I would get my chauffer to take me in. I think the driver is a twit, albeit a rich twit. 😁 He would not get out of 2nd gear most of the time.
@OnTrackDetailing
@OnTrackDetailing Жыл бұрын
@MrGman2804 Well I can agree about driving in London. But I can assure you if the towing company did damage the car, that is very much their problem. One person doing something wrong or illegal doesn't mean that someone else can't. If I park illegally does that mean you can, for example, crash into my car and not be liable? :)
@MrGman2804
@MrGman2804 Жыл бұрын
@@OnTrackDetailing Yes, I accept what you say from a legal point of view, but all I am saying is this driver would have to fight the battle which since he doesn't even like the hassle of parking, would give him an unwanted problem... but I do also accept if the towing company seriously damaged his car, and if as you say their insurance did not cover it... that would give them a headache. That said, not sure they could seriously damage the car unless they dropped it? The most likely damage would be dents and scratches from carelessness..... If I owned a towing company, I think I would decline work in taking away $1m vehicles, because it does seem to be risky versus the reward.

Someone less fortunate might have a few days of charges racked up or may not come get the car at all which means it can be auctioned off. Shitty, but just saying from a tow company’s likely perspective. It’s more likely he was targeted to make an example of him. (If this isn’t a stunt of course).
