What heads do u have? What year is your ranger? 4x4 or 2wd? What transmission?

Did you modify anything about the Ranger's harness?

Yes, i go over which harnesses i use in the video, and the changes needed. Which include the alternator harness termination, where you have to put a loop terminal connector on the white wire and run it to the large post on the alternator. I obviously used the explorer 5.0 engine harness, which i trimmed down and removed the rear o2 sensors all the way to the ecu, also removed the transmission range sensors etc. To learn more about the harness alterations you can watch "The EFI Guy" he has many videos about the 5.0 explorer harnesses and differences between certain years etc.. I show on screen in white text which harnesses to use. These videos only pertain to a 2wd 95-97 ranger fyi.

The explorer 42 pin connector plugs right into the ranger body 42 pin connector. And the only other thing is you have to connect the NSS wires in the trans harness together.

1998 ford ranger with a ford explorer 1996 5.0 and a 5 speed transmission from a mustang by t5 . need help with wiring
The vss should hook right up, and the nuetral safety switch i would just get rid of. Remove the pin behind the neutral safety switch with a magnet. And tie together the nss wires in the trans harness to bypass it. Then make sure u have an operational clutch safety switch. U can delete the range sensor and rear o2 sensors if u want to. "The EFI guy" has a youtube series about the explorer harness and how to bring the 2 fron o2 sensors furthur up in the harness for long tubes or just more accessibility. My 97 ranger still thinks its a 96 explorer as far as wiring and ecu etc

About how long did it take from removal to first start?

Well all in all took several years of gathering parts. I work 60-80 hours a week, so only was able to work weekends. And i had specific goals. But from getting the 3.0 out and 5 0 engine in and running just about 2-3 days. 15-20 hours of work. But i rebuilt the engine and transmission prior which adds a ton of time.

These videos won't really help for a 98+ swap. I will be doing a 98+ swap in the next couple of months, though. I spent around 8-10,000k, bought 4 donor 5.0 explorers, all the swap parts, ricks engine plates crossmember etc... I have a video that is titled 97 parts list, where i go over everything needed for the swap. 98-2000 rangers are SUPER EASY but you need at the PATS security hardware, key, modules etc.. to make it work.

@@SBS_Autois the reason is it was 8-10k was cause of the 4 donors? I’m looking to do the swap to my 2000 ranger and I’m looking for a donor. If I may ask why did you need 4?

@agc9774 i bought 4 because i wanted a ton of parts, and the different years matter for different reasons, heads, wirings, etc... and 2 of the explorers had blown engines.

I go through the complete list of parts in the 97 5.0 intro video on a whiteboard. For THESE gt40 heads, i used 1966 mustang tri-y headers from ebay. These work with 96-97.5 gt40 heads only They will not fit 97.5-2001 gt40p heads.

These tri-y headers will absolutely not fit gt40p(4-bar) heads from 97.5-2001 explorers. Only GT40(3-bar) heads from 96-97.5
