My Inkbird works great. I've used it for a year and a half, tested it with two different thermometers and it's within a degree of both controls. Costs about $30, I highly recommend them. Sorry to hear about your coral loss!

I have had 2 aqueon heaters fail on me one on the off (had two heaters so it was fine) and the other on the on. The 2nd one hit 97 degrees (note the similarity...) and I lost 3 fish. Now I use either controllable heaters or eheim heaters.

I too had really bad luck with Aqueon

Hope the tank recovers. I’ve used the cobalt neotherm heaters twice and they have failed in the on position and split twice on me. They make good products but this line of heaters are inferior..

They could have not wanted you to try the Inkbird controller because of how well know and popular it is. So they possible felt that your review of it wouldn’t benefit it. Maybe that’s why they offered the par 38 light.

Get a Ranco temperature controller you can get one that you will have to wire yourself for about $60 for single stage or $100 two stage. Aqualogic is also an option for a prewired one.

For simple/cheap heater controllers, I like the inkbird one, but the hygger one with titanium heating element on amazon also works really well if you want a different company.

With as expensive as the cobalt heaters are I am surprised it would fail on. I had to calibrate my inkbird a few times and it's still a little off. Before calibration it was over 3 degrees off.

Hmm, that might be why they didn’t want me to do a video on them

I believe Joey king of diy had the same problem with the cobalt heater

Man I hope that favia pulls through for you ;) Yeah I love my inkbird - have the wifi one - I had a heater explode in my tank when I was away on holiday - had a battery backup so it was fine... but if i had checked in on the wifi I would have known earlier. Get the Inkbird - I have only heard good things about it - they gave the wifi ones to a bunch of KZbinrs a bit over a year ago and everyone was impressed ;) I may try and email Ken and see how long it will last with shipping ;)

It looks quite good for this high temperature. I also have recently to high temperature. It took 1 week that the corals show me the reaction. I do have a KHD from GHL with a temperature probe, it is very cool to monitor the temperature and have connections from all over the world. However, I have covered my tank and even my sump which hold the temperature inside. Also I have big pumps. I don’t have a heater from the beginning on.
@MileHighReefers3 жыл бұрын
As much I don’t want to both tanks need some kind of monitor or controller. I just wish heaters would fail off. Seems like a problem that could be solved
@moereefer3 жыл бұрын
I’m really looking at GHL over Apex it’s must more reliable then apex

@@MileHighReefers you could use a aqua medic temperature twin controller or the inkbird as redundancy. Plug in a normal heater to 25 Celsius. The ink bird you can set on 27 Celsius. Therefore the ink bird switch of the heater if they want to burn the tank. With two cheap device you will be more o less save? Did you already consider about?

@@moereefer I have no experience with apex, but I heard about some apex failures. For me it is a easy decision. I am from Germany an like to spend my money local if I can. The quality is very good. But the connection to the cloud is not perfect in my case, sometimes I need a couple of try’s. With apex you may have the bigger flexibility in programming, but I don’t need this.

I think Inkbird was not hiding anything with the heater controllers. I just think they don’t need the marketing of you posting about it on KZbin. Sales are great on those controllers. But for the Par38 light they wanted you to test, they might have needed some more exposure on social media.

Ranco controller my friend. Aqualogic makes one with a titanium probe.

Inkbird is certainly not high end - I also found there are several different inkbird companies making them. They even sell them for different prices on amazon. I had to argue with one of them asking for a refund and they said they were a different company also inkbird. Maybe the people you dealt with was a similar situation to this. That being said I own 6 of them and they all work. When I get a new one I put it on my display and the older ones I use for clownfish babies, qt, frag ect. I'm the same way in preferring livestock but again $30. All heaters suck!

It’s crazy that In 2021 we can’t get good heaters. Looks like a great business opportunity for a smart company. I was really surprised with Inkbird they seemed like an odd company

Eheim jagers never had a issue, years of use. I run them now with a inkbird, works fantastic. Inkbird probably wanted a test on their light because it was a new product. The temp controller has been around for awhile and numerous review videos, I think BRS even did a video on it before they came out with their controller (which is basically a inkbird). I would argue that a apex doesn’t complicate things. Sure you can nerd out with one and make things complex. But in reality you can pick up a older (classic) apex jr. for not much money, and utilize it for just simple basic functions it can actually make running the tank easier. Heck even a old reefkeeper lite would work great, people are practically giving those away anymore. I think for the piece of mind is worth it, like you said, “it could have been a whole lot worse”.
@neptunes_pot3 жыл бұрын
Me to, I never have a issue with my Eheim Jager back in the days. Only the heating wire was sometimes get lose an slide together. Therefore the heating power was getting less, but no burn outs...

And for the price why cobalt can even get that hot is ridiculous...should hit 82 plus and kick into some kind of failsafe mode....shouldn't need other controllers for heater so pricey ...running double cheapo ones now
