My grandma had a pantry under the stairs. The outer wall faced north and had a small window with fine open mesh to allow cold air in (but no flies) and a marble sill on which stood her butter dish and a tray of eggs. There was a built in cupboard on the right with mesh doors obviously the meat safe, and below that deep shelves for baking tins and suchlike. To my left (the wooden wall) were narrow shelves for her food tins and jars of glistening preserves. The floor space was for storage of larger boxes, a vegetable rack her preserving pans and her shopping basket. A very practical space. Thanks for reminding me of it 😊

@@seanjamescameron I live very rural. 🤣 It's a must to be prepared and I have to out of necessity. I live in an impact crater in the US Dixie Alley at the edge of the Appalachian mountains.(Tennessee) Our last harvest was 7 gallons of honey. We expect 10-11 gallons this fall. No way to refrigerate that much and the fridge puts it in an enviroment which it can absorb condensation. Causing it to ferment. Still good to eat. Think Mead 😜

Definitely keep honey in the cupboard, has an indefinite shelf life (they have even found honey in Egyptian tombs that was still viable!) and you need a twizzler to drizzle it into your tea or on cereal. I must admit I am a glass fanatic in the kitchen (I don’t like plastic kettles or water filters) and finally found a glass one with a glass honeypot. Wooden twizzlers are quite easy to find too.

Sean - there must be a lady in the village who sews. Good curtains to insulate your house can be easily made with a silver reflective emergency blanket, sandwiched between a quilted mattress pad and a printed drapery fabric that goes with your decor. They should hang flat against the window frame. They make an amazing difference to the warmth of your rooms and save money on heat.

Hi Sean, as others have said you keep your honey in the cupboard that's what I do. 👍🏻 I love the design of your new kitchen blind once it's installed it will look wonderful! Re scrambled eggs, I always add some milk so you end up with a creamy yellow colour, makes the eggs go further too. Then give the mixture a quick whisk with a balloon whisk until you see small bubbles that will make your scrambled eggs more fluffy! Always add knob of butter first in the saucepan on a low heat before the scrambled eggs. Anyway, don't take any notice of me if you like your eggs the way you have them! Re the lost screw to your fan I thought I saw it drop down to the floor or the gap in the sofa between your legs. I think your shed will look fab with your set up I can see it now in the Winter! Glad your not painting your seed cabinet I always favour natural wood! Take care untill next time. 🙂

Hi Sean! To prevent green tea from tasting bitter, only boil the water to 80C/176F, or turn the water off early. Also only brew the tea for 1 min max. Green tea contains catechins, which are anti-cancer properties but they taste bitter. To prevent those bitter compounds in the tea, only boil the water to 80c. It’s a completely different experience.

Sean, sour dough is a faff, but I still make it. My starter, Aine (traditional to name it), is now one year old. The more mature the starter, the better the sour dough. I know how to dry it, and when you are ready I will happily send through the post for you. She is all organic. I also have an organic heritage rhubarb plant (Victoria). I can send you a root of that in Spring when I split her. I have offered before, you will need to let me know if you are interested though. I keep my honey in the press and I always bought organic honey but only heard recently that I might as well be eating sugar 🙈🙈 Raw honey is best!!! I also heard a few months ago that you shouldn't use a metal spoon in honey, use a plastic or the wooden one especially for honey. 2 eggs for scramble. My blood pressure was sky high, probably for a long time many year's but I didn't know because I hadn't gone to the doctors all through the Convid. I am 66. I am on a different diet for the last 5 weeks, no black tea no coffee, no porridge oats. I was vegan and I used organic oats for making my milk / bread / biscuits etc. I only every had 1 cup of organic black tea leaves once a day and organic coffee beans once a day, so I can have cacao drinking chocolate and herbal tea instead. Within a few day's my blood pressure when right down. 👍😉🇨🇮☘️Eire

William will look very smart in your kitchen Sean, love his bright colours. My under stairs cupboard is like yours and we inherited hooks along the back wall. Find them useful for hanging bags of shallots, onions and garlic plus keeping the shopping bags in one place. I inherited a table from mum and tried it in the cupboard but found it impractical because of the height. It wouldn't go far enough back and ended up having to crawl underneath to reach the back. Had a good turn out last year and now have an old shelving unit against the left side and a storage box right at the back which left room for a long handled brush and pan. Finding the new layout much more convenient and didn't have to worry about the wall not being straight. My tool box is on the right as you open the door and put my trug on top. Bit restricted on that side beause of the gas and electric meters. Lovely breeze from that smart looking fan as you turned it to the camera 😂

Then I have breakfast made or a quick snack - I use the air fryer to cook them and to re-warm them . cooking spray 6 eggs salt and pepper to taste 1/2 cup cooked chopped spinach excess water removed 1/3 cup crumbled cooked bacon 1/3 cup shredded cheddar cheese diced tomatoes and chopped parsley optional garnish INSTRUCTIONS Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Coat 6 cups of a muffin tin with cooking spray or line with paper liners. Crack the eggs into a large bowl. Use a whisk to blend the eggs until smooth. Add the spinach, bacon and cheese to the egg mixture and stir to combine. Divide the egg mixture evenly among the muffin cups. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until eggs are set. Serve immediately or store in the refrigerator until ready to eat. Top with diced tomatoes and parsley if desired.

Those tent stoves (Overland) are good. About £170 or thereabouts. Easy to fit and toasty warm, I have one in my shepherd's hut.. Do not leave it unattended though! Good for an extended gardening session in the shed in winter.

Good morning Sean, You look a bit more perkier this morning,it did you good to recharge your batteries with a sleep! I love that you are using one of your china cups from the last video, did you enjoy the green tea? I have porridge for breakfast and french toast every now and again, it's delicious with a drizzle of honey over it 😋 I should imagine there are pros and cons of being tall,im only 5ft 5 so I have to stand on tip toe to get into my kitchen cupboards! You did make me laugh with the screw- loose double entendre! Enjoy your fan and take care Sean 💜

You are right Sean there doesn't seem to be much of pride in peoples work, wondering if the bosses want things off the production line or what it is. Sadly its probably down to money and profit😮. I've just purchased one of those camping hobs but was a bit worried about installing the gas cylinders, but you made it look so easy so must give it a go 😃. I have no gas in my home so it will be handy if i get a power cut lol. Its good to see you using your family china. One of the first episodes i found from you was all about cost of power which then lead me to getting some of the battery powered sensor lights, maybe for the homested? Who's William? Or do you mean the kitchen blind?Lol. Enjoy the rest of the weekend. Stay safe 🤗

Honey in the cupboard. It never goes bad. If it crystallises just set the open jar in a pan with hot water , warm it gently. It's perfect again. Just a thought for anyone who wants it, bring down the last dregs of honey in the jar , to the allotment. If you were unlucky enough as to cut yourself, a rinse in water and a blob of honey on the area would get you home safe n sound. Its a real miracle substance

You wouldn't need to raise the shed roof, if you put your potting bench and kettle on the short wall with shelves and small cabinets. You would be standing further out in the shed at a higher roof height.

I think I would put up a (concrete or brick) fundament and put the shed on it, instead of lifting the roof. Seems easier to me :) One other advantage is that the wood is of the ground/ soil.

@@seanjamescameron you could move the table to the lower side of the shed (opposite to were you have it) then that would give you more head space because the shed roof slants up near the Window side where you could sit.

Another question: About the eggs. Do most people leave eggs out of fridge in your part of the world? Here in US, we refrigerate them at home. Honey is kept room temp here, usually out of direct sunlight. PS: about raising the shed roof: excellent idea! That means you can actually free up floorspace or double space over items you do keep on floor too. That's because baskets can hang from hooks up high around perimeter. That would keep seeds high and dry. Tea, powdered cream, cups and utensils could have a spot out of your way. Twine, labels, markers and such could be organized at eye level etc. I'd use the heck out of that extra height around inside perimeter where you'd not likely be treading anyway.
@seanjamescameron
@seanjamescameron 2 ай бұрын
Yes we keep them out of the fridge. It's because of the way they are processed, ours aren't washed whereas, from what I understand, they go through a washing process in the US which means they need to be put in the fridge.

I usually eat muesli with yoghurt apple and banana with a teaspoon of local honey 🍯 if I’m feeling like a change I love porridge with fruit. I occasionally eat granary toast with peanut butter. If I’m making scrambled eggs for my hubby and myself we’ll have 3 eggs 🥚 I don’t like green tea it’s too bland. When I lived in Switzerland I drank lime flower tea ( lindenbluten) or rosehip tea. Both very palatable ☕️🫖

Hi Sean, Thinking only about conserving energy bills, Microwaves are very cheap and efficient to use.,as against other forms of cooking, also if you are looking for slow cooking there is your ,slow cooker. I have even baked a cake in it,on high. Most people use Microwave for heating up food, so Slow cook a nice dinner, for two days, then next day warm up your meal in the Microwave. Lots more time on 2nd day day to do other things. Only a suggestion, you understand. As you know I was a chef so I have used all types of cooking ways, even a coal range. 😊. Honey is very fine stored in a cupboard ❤ With love Sandra. Rhyl

The day after that, I will have avocado toast and fresh blueberries. The day after that, high protein buttermilk and vanilla waffles with fruit and turkey sausage. Another day it will be cottage cheese and fruit. After that, I repeat the menu.

Sean I always have powdered milk at the allotment so I always have some in if I forget to take some liquid milk with me. Also I recommend peppermint tea if good for the gut I hear. My daughter has it and initially I pulled a face but tbh but now I have a couple of cups a day and I really enjoy it. I prefer it to green tea it’s so much more refreshing I think. Anyway you’ve got me thinking about sour dough bread so when I next in Lidl I’m gonna pick some up to try. Lidl have a lovely bakery section their low GI loaf is my favourite. Xx
