Where did all this take place? I was born in 1950 and no one I knew ever lived the way she describes . After the second world war the vets came home. Then they used their benefits to get an education. They got married and got a good job. Then they bought a "match box" of their own. No more party lines. Also everyone had a dial . phone then later came the princess phone. Unless you lived somewhere out in the boondocks somewhere then you had a dial phone.. The fifties were wonderful, even if we did only have four channels.

I'm a 19 yr old that was born in 2003 and I can openly say that I loove the style they had back then!! especially loving the shoes and the lace socks going with the whole look and the fact that you had to wear a skirt.. I may sound super old-fashioned I guess, even though I'm young I've got an old heart and I love simplistic things and I find those simplistic times nostalgic. I truly found pleasure in seeing the times back then because I felt like I might have actually belonged in those times. Just the clothing style, the simple lifestyle and the aesthetic from back then speaks a lot to me haha
@Bevsie544 жыл бұрын
Also raised in the 50’s and 60’s. Your grandmother brought me back and remember so many of the things she spoke about. Her last words were the most important...it was such a wonderful time to live. The constant rush of the 2000’s is exhausting. People are trying to do 300 things at one time and not enjoying one of them. Back then, when you did something, you enjoyed it and didn’t worry about who was calling, or where you had to be in the next few minutes. I feel badly for the young people today, I truly do. Don’t get me wrong, it definitely wasn’t perfect, but it sure was better than what’s offered to kids today.

I was born in 1950 and I have to be absolutely honest and say that I miss absolute freedom I had. In 1957 we took the train from our home in Florida to my grandmothers house in Baltimore. We spent all summer in the woods building forts and playing. I was seven years old and when I would lie on the floor of the Enoch Pratt library for hours looking at books. I would go to the shopping center by myself and to matinee movie on Wednesdays by myself...... I remember seeing Godzilla and Mothra, peter pan and the bridge on the river Kwai. We stayed out after dark catching lightning bugs and playing spud. When I was eight years old I took the bus by myself to the dentist. So children are allowed freedom but we also got to learn the lessons of self-reliance and responsibility. My how things have changed.

I also grew up during the 50’s and I can attest to everything your grandmother said. I wish today’s children could grow up in a world such as we did. Having all the modern technology is good at times, but should not dominate your life.
@truelily73 жыл бұрын
Love my memories but love technology in so many ways. Also Fifties were full of racism , sexism, and ageism. And LGBTQ was against the law. So glad we have progressed from that but still have a whole segment of the country stuck in that.

Born in the early 60s and a lot of this was still around, or within recent memory. Amazing how much things changed. Good people are what made the good old days. I am liking most of the tech advances we have now. The 1950s were a very interactive time period. And the 60s/70s too. More community and social concern. We should bring this back!
