The main message of this situation is that we had a rookie head coach last year that needed a lot of support to be successful and that support structure was delegated to people already in the organization instead of built around him. The bad drafts go back a few years so that really isn't in play here; but when you get a front office guy contributing to game day operations and staffing instead of focusing entirely on scouting and player analytics; you get lower quality scouting and player analytics which cascades through the rest of the system. Wolf shouldn't be gone and he shouldn't be ignored; but he does need to prove himself to Vrabel and ownership just like all of the rest of the players and staff do. As far as the media message; as long as the team doesn't provide a straight answer to who makes the decisions, it ends up being the conversation that continues to happen and it allows the team to control what the media is focusing on while Vrabel does media better than anyone has in Foxboro for the last 25 years.

Some people just wanna yell and fire everyone without digging deeper

Great points overall..To be honest,,they should bring everyone back for one more offseason,,including Vrabel bringing in his guy...I don't think anyone understands how poor the free agent and draft situation was last year at outside receiver and left tackle..Wolf did try to pay Calvin Ridley and tried to move back into the first round for Xavier Leggette..It's not like he was delusional...I'd be patient,esp considering Wolfs track record vs Cowdens...On the positive,,Joe Milton looked good and I thought Caeden Wallace on most downs did a great job against the Bills...

By this summer, the Giants guy will be GM or Director of Player Personnel of the Pats and Wolf will be demoted or gone. This is a non story. Why would Vrabel take a job where he does not have say in who the personal director is after he got fired for not getting alone with the personnel director? I don't think Bertrand understood Mike's point. We so quickly forget that, because Jerod Mayo had ZERO connections and ZERO pull in the league, Eliot Wolf spent the beginning of the offseason last year making Jerod's entire staff. Eliot had to pull in all of the candidates for OC, DC, ST, and the front office executives, etc., to the point where they reportedly couldn't even fully implement his grading system prior to the draft. I think him being able to sit back and have Vrabel do what a head coach is supposed to do, e.g., pick his own OC and DC and ST coach, implement the schemes he wants, and pick the kinds of players he wants and needs for his team, he can focus solely on scouting and evaluating personnel to present to Mike for the final call.
@stickman17427 күн бұрын
Clearly all these guys babysat Mayo. Vrabel doesn't need that so all these guys will basically disappear. Only Kraft can create problems and we'll just have to hold our breath because he has been known to do that in the past. He's been a little insane since 2021. Hopefully he will at least give Vrabel a chance to get going.

I think bringing in Cowden with vrabel and mixing those minds with wolf is a good process. When you have a think tank of all guys that think alike with no variety problems like bill belichick will just happen again. There is such things as being spread too thin. If you have seven plates in the air, quality will suffer somewhere. That's especially true if E. Wolfe's role changed drastically last year. It may have been an overwhelming experience to do all the extra coach-related stuff. There must be a reason people want to keep Wolfe around. My theory is that the Krafts saw the players that Wolfe wanted to draft over the years when Bill was here, and a lot of those players are now productive players in the league. It's likely that Bill, in his last few years, primarily ignored Wolfe and the scouting department, which led to several crappy drafts. If last year was super chaotic, it may have negatively affected scouting. Either way, you can't throw the baby out with the bath water this off-season: there's no way that Vrabel would be ready for FA and the draft without the months of work already done by Wolfe's staff. It will be very interesting to see if Wolfe is here next offseason. That's when we'll get the real answers.

Question for anyone: Take away the gm,,say it was Al Davis at GM for us last offseason...Two biggest needs were left tackle and outside receiver,especially at the X...We used the 3 pick on Maye...Calvin Ridley told us no..Tyron Smith told us no..We were told no when we tried to trade back into the first round to grab Xavier Leggette...What was out there for Al Davis or ANY GM to take at these positions when we had our picks? Where specifically did the gm miss it ?? After Mcconkey,,who plays slot when we already had Douglas,,what outside receivers from the second round back were good this year? What Left tackles were good? Or maybe the fact we didn't have a nfl level receivers coach to help Polk and Baker wasn't on the GM because all of the good coaches were turning the Patriots down....Maye look decent this year? Caeden Wallace was keeping guys in check vs the bills...Layden Robinson had good moments,,as did Marcellas Dial...Joe Milton anyone? Getting a third round pick for a toast Judon any good? What position was the GM put in this last offseason? It was a NO WIN situation! The answer is let Vrabel have final word,,bring everyone back and let Mike bring in his guy as well...Everyone picking on Wolf and having no real understanding of the situation..I'd put money on Polk and Baker improving vastly with real coaching and a coordinator giving them better routes to run.
