I always thought it was a tube screamer with more eq controls which is cool but doesn’t Macon make a tube screamer with two eq controls already ? How about an SD1 that you could add a touch more low end back into it nothing crazy just a bump because the SD1 is just about perfect, I just wish I could thicken it up without dampening the nasty top end bite it has. I have an OCD and it almost does it but it’s a little too fat on the bottom end for high gain in my opinion. Of course you can get a cheap 6 band eq I have one made by Blakk for 35 or 40 dollars and turn about any OD into whatever boutique drive you’re chasing even the Bad Monkeys. It cracks me up because you couldn’t give a Bad Monkey away last week. Wasn’t it Vai’s ultimate modded Tube Screamer anyway and Vai’s name has been on a lot of gear and none of it has sucked so everyone had 30 years to bad monkey and now everyone is digging them out of their closet for the chumps. There’s an ass for every seat . I love it whenever a player that becomes the next guitar icon uses gear everyone hated on , TS10 anyone ? Then people act like that obscure pedal is the secret to their tone when more than likely the guy needed an OD and that’s what he had. Pretty much any OD will do most everything that’s what the knobs are for guys. Wait until JHS does a video on the crossroads pedal.

Especially since it is completely useless, because if you know how to use modeling and can adjust everything in the slightest detail, it sounds even better than traditional amps and pedals, you have fewer settings by definition on the real gear. So not only is there speculation, but it is completely unnecessary. If it sounded better to have physical products, I would be willing to accept the argument, but I have been playing for over 20 years and that is not at all what I have noticed. It all depends on whether you know how to make the adjustments in the slightest detail Most people complain because they purchase amplifiers or modeling software and don't know how to set them up. They rely on basic presets and user presets available in the cloud. The problem primarily stems from that

I’ve had a pair of them for years, got them for around $25 each. Always liked them, especially paired with an SD-1. Always been happy with them. Saw one in a Tacoma area pawn shop for $50 yesterday, resisted the urge to pick it up and flip it. I won’t participate in that nonsense.

The effect pedal market has gone bonkers. The Bad Monkey is just a Tube Screamer with a bass knob and a cab emulated output. Anybody with even a half decent amp won't use the cab emulated output, and there are Tube Screamer clones out there with even more extended equalizer section than the Bad Monkey. Even the Big Tone Music Brewery Classic Overdrive with switchable Tube Screamer (Symmetric Clipping) and SD-1 (Asymmetric Clipping) modes and an extended equalizer section costs just $190. People willing to pay $900 for Bad Monkey have more money than brains.

At some point, I'm not even sure that "some" actively want to kill the second hand market (by some, I mean a diffuse and shared responsibility of many individuals). It's just insane and the implications on the future of pedal use/designs and such (even on the pro market) will be subject to complete instability.
