I had this baby several years ago. And I'm almost certain that I just bought the last one out there. I had ordered it Sunday afternoon. Monday evening I went back to the site just to look at my baby again, get the dimensions to prep the space for her, etc. But this time there was a "this item is backordered" message. And since it was no where else online I had to guess that this model has been discontinued. And I believe that is the case. That now it's been morphed into some other configuration. Feel really lucky to have been reunited again before she was gone for good...unless I wanted to deal with 2nd hand gear. But it's funny. My 4 guitars and now my quality amp are all collector's items now. My 3 Dimebag's and my 7 string Schecter Silver Mountain.

I almost wonder if that red HSH ESP was for Michael Angelo Batio. Only famous guy I’ve ever seen w/ EMG HSH configuration (only seen it on some home-mod Ibanez RG’s) Yeah it doesn’t split for position 2 and 4, and the middle pickup has to be very high to balance. I crudely 18v modded my RG and am fighting parasitic battery drain rn, but the guitar does sound AMAZING. Between 18v and lowering my humbuckers to get a useable position 2 and 4, the 81 behaves more like an angry Duncan JB, and the 85 is showing a sweet side, still boomy but the treble is less squished. I like it a lot, if only I can figure out what’s wrong with my circuit. It seems like the 18v adds headroom without removing gain. That means your harder picks can peak over the top more than they “should” but your pickup is still gonna overdrive your amp with lighter stuff. This seems to be a difference between modding your older EMGs and buying an “X series” pickup, but someone who’s done both should weigh in.

I have the 9005 as well trying to figure out which preamp to run through it PQ3? TC1140 ?, Digitech DHP55 , Digitech,GSP2101 Artist . Also Have the TUBEWORKS RT-904 By B.K. Butler back in the day Killer vid and just like you I had to have the Marshall 9005 big iron Drake Transformers shit why the hell not right it’s basically a 2204 50 watt but in stereo once you find the right preamp play with it for the sound you want amp is just the tool it’s what you put with it that makes come alive 🤘

Great amp. I've had the pleasure of playing this and a Nitro at a friend's studio years ago. I preferred the Nitro at the time but both are great. A better clean channel and they'd be perfect.
